I love this series but....

I love this series but I am constantly running into this with several other audiobooks and it just pains me.... mispronunciation of names!!!! Is there no way the company that records these books can check with the publisher/ author to see how the character names are supposed to be pronounced.... in this book there wouldn't even be a need for it as I repeatedly hear the narrator pronounce "Lucian" (loo-Shen) as "loo-Chen" and even "loo-chi-en" ..... I mean how hard is it??? Makes me want my money back at times when I physically cringe at every pronunciation 😡

So, this is the second time that I will write a review like this because I just don't understand what the producers/ audio company are thinking #1: when they get someone other than the usual performer to read the book... I understand that this person may be unavailable or things happen, but if you are going to choose a new person to read the story rather than the performer that read the other 6 or 7.... The least you can do is require that person to read in the same style as the original person everyone is familiar with....and #2 make sure the new person speaks consistently, same accents and the same pronunciation of main character's names, places and things.... I couldn't tell you as a serious fan of these books and Laurell Murlington's previous performances of this series..... It made my stomach hurt, made me angry at times and sometimes made me not even want to listen because of the way Ms. Hill preformed this book... To me, it should be a courtesy to the reader that the producers make it as similar as possible and when they aren't, it makes me angry that I wasted my money listening to it when I should have just bought the paperback and read it myself and pronounced these things like we are used to hearing them.... It was just extremely painful at times getting through the performance, which takes away from the story.... But I still love this series, the story itself is amazing regardless of the reading.

I love this series but have to admit, whose ever decision it was to change performers all the sudden, in my opinion, should be reprimanded!! I understand technical things happen to where some performers may not be available, but using a performer with an English/British accent to represent a character who is not English/British shouldn't have happened. Also, Laurel Merlington has been the "voice" of all the characters in this series since the start and hearing Claudia Black with the accent and different pronunciation of familiar words, just ruined the performance aspect for me. It wasn't just absolutely horrible but just made it not as enjoyable listening.... Nothing against Claudia Black..... I just wish the producers would at least make the new readers pronounce the words the same and not change it... Just my 2 coppers..
