Historia
It is the last decade of the 19th century. The Wild West has been tamed and its fierce, independent and often violent larger-than-life figures – gun-toting wanderers, trappers, prospectors, Indian fighters, cowboys, and lawmen –are now victims of their own success. They are heroes who’ve outlived their usefulness.

The Last Frontier
Revisado: 09-27-24
From start to finish this was a great story…. The fact that this is all true makes it better than any fictional account of the Gold Rush. The author paints a graphic picture of the men, the cold and unforgiving landscape. There are characters galore to enjoy and I am going to learn more about Charley Siringo, and Soapy Smith. One a rascal con man, the other a hard working man who actually succeeds while Soapy…,

An Excellent Book and I I enjoyed the in depth discussion and analysis of what makes a pitch successful or not.

The voice of the book always either enhances or makes for a difficult listen for myself. The performer kept me engaged and kept me coming back to the story. The author has written a book that is informative and an entertaining read.

Historia
As a string of high-profile jewel thefts went unsolved during the Swinging Sixties, the press dubbed the elusive thief the King of Diamonds. Like Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief, the King was so bold that he tip-toed into the homes of millionaires while they were home, hiding in their closets and daring to smoke while they were sleeping. Rena Pederson, then a young reporter with UPI, started following the elusive thief while she managed the night desk. With gymnastic skill, he climbed trees and crawled across rooftops to take jewels from heiresses, oil kings, corporate CEOs.

Big D Larger than Life
Revisado: 05-27-24
I enjoyed learning about the enormous collection of personalities in Dallas that characterized an era of opulent Texas high society. What a collection of characters and they lived life in their own styles as big as they could. The TV series Dallas barely scraped the Wild West mentality of Dallas and truly was better than any fiction TV could create. I enjoyed this deep dive by the author and would look forward to reading her next offering.

Historia
In Dreams of El Dorado, H. W. Brands tells the thrilling, panoramic story of the settling of the American West. He takes us from John Jacob Astor's fur trading outpost in Oregon to the Texas Revolution, from the California gold rush to the Oklahoma land rush. He shows how the migrants' dreams drove them to feats of courage and perseverance that put their stay-at-home cousins to shame - and how those same dreams also drove them to outrageous acts of violence against indigenous peoples and one another. El Dorado was at least as elusive in the West as it ever was in the East.

The Dream of Eldorado….
Revisado: 05-09-23
We’re for some fulfilled and for many others not so much. I completely enjoyed this book and feel as if I have really just scratched the surface of the Old West. This book leads me on in search for books that tell the stories of the American West. Mr Brands has written a great book to begin my study.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Excellent story line. Excellent vocal performances from the lead character and I enjoyed the insight into the life that native Alaskans still live today!
