When I first began listening, I found the writing too mature for my tastes, but it evolved quickly into an interesting story with lovable and dislikable characters and a clever plot.

Historia
Audible Originals takes to the high seas to bring to life this timeless tale of pirates, lost treasure maps and mutiny. When weathered old sailor Billy Bones arrives at the inn of young Jim Hawkins' parents, it is the start of an adventure beyond anything he could have imagined. When Bones dies mysteriously, Jim stumbles across a map of a mysterious island in his sea chest, where X marks the spot of a stash of buried pirate gold.

Didn't expect to enjoy this title, but I did!
Revisado: 09-06-19
Reading the book Treasure Island didn't sound like an entertaining prospect at all for this 80's kid. However, after 38 years of dodging it, I took the chance and acquired it on Audible. Now I have the story in two other media because I enjoyed this performance so much that I simply had to pay respects to the author.
I didn't expect the depth of the characters written at the time when this story was published. There are instances of violence, betrayal and loyalty that are often attributed to the same characters. The line between protagonist and antagonist in this story is as grey and blurred as I have ever encountered in literature.

Historia
Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.

This story would have made a far better film than the one that we were given. Lots of surprises are in store for new listeners who have been long time fans of the Alien franchise.

"'Boy, do I have a lot to learn!'" Anyone who's ever picked up a musical instrument of any kind - from the first caveman banging rocks to that little kid at the guitar shop - has thought that. I know I did. I'd been trying for years to break in to the music scene, to show everyone my chops, to make my mark. And I was good. But I wasn't great. I knew that there was something wrong. Then the teacher showed up...."

Historia
LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

Historia
"That Others May Live" is a mantra that defines the fearless men of Alaska's 212th Pararescue Unit, the PJs, one of the most elite military forces on the planet. Whether they are rescuing citizens injured and freezing in the Alaskan wilderness or saving wounded Rangers and SEALs in blazing firefights at war, the PJs are the least known and most highly trained of America's warriors. Never Quit is the true story of how Jimmy Settle, an Alaskan shoe-store clerk, became a Special Forces Operator and war hero.

I absolutely enjoyed this story from beginning to end. Here is a man who lives up to his full potential. He graduated from one of the toughest military training programs of all time. He writes with humility and a soft heart when describing his peers and does not seem to look at his accomplishments as bragging rights, but merely as stepping stones to the next event life takes him to. If I could have been like any other man throughout my life, it'd probably be Jimmy Settle.

Historia
Vain and charismatic Walter Sickert made a name for himself as a painter in Victorian London. But the ghoulish nature of his art - as well as extensive evidence - points to another name, one that's left its bloody mark on the pages of history: Jack the Ripper. Cornwell has collected never-before-seen archival material - including a rare mortuary photo, personal correspondence and a will with a mysterious autopsy clause - and applied cutting-edge forensic science to open an old crime to new scrutiny.

I'm Sold On The Author's Theory!
Revisado: 04-15-18
All of the materials that I have seen of Sickert's creation (albeit having seen all of it after I began listening to this book) make Cornwell's theory ring hauntingly plausible. I amcompelled to wonder if this might have been well known to the people Sickert's circles during the years that followed the official canonized crimes. The ineptitude of a budding Metropolitan Police force might have been out of it's league with the initial case and had to deal with the solidarity of the legend having only 5 similar crimes in White Chapel to weigh against perhaps dozens more crimes in other locations would ultimately set identifying the killer or implicating a living Sickert an impossibility.

One of our major commitments is bringing new and diverse audio experiences to our members, so this year, as our gift to you, we pulled together a collection that reflects a little bit of everything we’ve been up to recently.

I seriously thought I was listening to NPR
Revisado: 12-24-17
The stories were fine to excellent. The last chapter (featuring Vern) was derivative of NPR. Like being trapped in an elevator playing Prairie Home Companion epsiodes on a loop until emergency services arrive and kill the power in an effort to rescue you with two-fold success. No disrespect intended as a lot of effort was clearly exhausted in the making of this program, but it feels so 'subsidized.'

A Beautiful and Tragic Story
Revisado: 12-10-17
It would be hard to take one's free will for granted after this well-written story. I enjoy stories that capture my imagination and touch me on emotional levels. The characters that matter will really grow on you. The antagonist elements will infuriate you. Law and Justice can be very different from one another. Bad seeds can suffer an ass-kicking. True evil is strong, but it too can be defeated. Hope and family are powerful weapons.
