Historia
1936 was a great year for the movie industry - the financial setbacks of the Great Depression were subsiding, so theater attendance was up. Americans everywhere were watching the stars, and few stars shined as brightly as one of America's most enduring screen favorites, Mary Astor. But Astor's personal story wasn't a happy one. Born poor and widowed at 24, Mary Astor had spent years looking for stability when she met and wed Dr. Franklyn Thorpe.

Historia
Written with an exciting combination of narrative flair and historical authority, this interpretation of the tragic life of Catherine Howard, fifth wife of Henry VIII, breaks new ground in our understanding of the very young woman who became queen at a time of unprecedented social and political tension and whose terrible errors in judgment quickly led her to the executioner's block.

Very Informative

This was very detailed and factual, but dense reading. At times, I had to back it up to keep track of the current topic. It was interesting but a little dry. A little more encyclopedic than I anticipated.

Historia
Mary Martin was one of the greatest stars of her day. Growing up in Texas, she was married early to Benjamin Hagman and gave birth to her first child, Larry Hagman. She was divorced even more quickly. Martin left little Larry with her parents and took off for Hollywood. She didn't make a dent in the movie industry and was lured to New York, where she found herself auditioning for Cole Porter and his new show Leave It to Me! After she sang the bawdy "My Heart Belongs to Daddy", she ended up on the cover of Life magazine.

Fascinating and captivating
Revisado: 10-07-17
I am loving this book- listening on the ride to and from work. Starting to become sad that it’s almost over. Well-written, and very engaging. I highly recommend for those who love historical fiction. Wish the author had more of similar theme. The narrator took a long time to get comfortable with, but the story is engaging and illuminating- pun intended. Good reminder of big business vs. the little guy.
