Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Disappointed - kind of
Revisado: 11-03-23
Let me first say, I really like Matthew. I like his humor, I like his movies, & I like his charismatic personality. Some of the things I did not like in the book was the fluctuation of his voice from quiet to VERY loud. Sometimes I listen to my audible book in the middle of the night to help me to go back to sleep. And when Matthew’s voice gets loud, it caused rapid heartbeat & shaking of my limbs from being startled out of my wits. I also did not like some “quite personal” references to his relationship between his hand & a particular body part - or the reference to a certain “kind of dream”. TMI Matthew- too saucy for my delicate ears. And I wasn't particularly jazzed about the green, I mean, blue language. But all in all, I can tell Matthew put a lot into writing this book but I think I’ll stick with his movies & not recommend his book to my friends/family.

Great Narrator
Revisado: 04-15-23
I've listened to many, many books, some with marginal narrators & some with great narrators. Good narrating is a craft & skill that takes a lot of practice. It's not about just reading a story to people. Anna Massey did an amazing job with this story. I'm quite picky with "Rebecca" since it's my absolutely favorite book. Anna did not disappoint!

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Good Follow-Up Story
Revisado: 10-08-22
I liked the story although I would've preferred it to be longer and more detailed. All of the performers did a wonderful job. I liked the sound effects in the background. However, I thought the selection of music (most of it) was quite distracting and did not fit the time period.

Narrator-the best!
Revisado: 07-02-22
I was afraid the book may be as slow and draggy like the mini series. But Lee Horsley made the book quite fun & it clipped right along. I’ve listened to a lot of books and narrators but Lee is right at the top of being gifted in this arena. I liked the story and never tired of listening to it.

On their grueling journey, they are joined by Joshua Deets, a Black scout and former Ranger, Jake Spoon, a fugitive, and Newt Dobbs, a 17-year-old boy who may have family ties to Call. Richly authentic, beautifully written, always dramatic, Lonesome Dove will make listeners laugh and weep, dream and remember.

Best of Her Books (so far)
Revisado: 03-20-22
I stumbled onto Jean’s books & have really enjoyed them. I love hearing about & learning from a different perspective of Ireland. However, this book topped all of them for me (even though it was difficult getting accustomed to a different narrator who didn’t quite measure up to Siobhan Waring), At one point in the story, I was listening in the wee hours of the morning which usually helps me go back to sleep. However, that part of the book was so intense, I stayed awake for close to 2 hours with heart pounding wildly. I like how Jean introduces characters without overwhelming the reader (or listener) - it’s easy to keep every character straight and clear. Good job, Jean, with this book! You are a great author.

Great Story
Revisado: 05-24-21
This story builds & builds in intensity. So much so that when I was listening during the early morning hours, I could not return to sleep because of the tension in the story. It is one of the best books in which I’ve ever read/listened.

Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Poor Narration
Revisado: 06-08-19
The book was recommended to me by a friend. I don’t usually like stories like this but it was a really good story. In fact, I just ordered the next book in the series.
The narration was terrible! So monotone & dry. If this narrator would’ve performed the next book in the series, I would’ve passed on it. There are so many great narrators out there who know how to bring life to a book - this gal is NOT one of them. Narrating is much more than just reading the words on a page. I will steer clear of any book she narrates.

Historia
Austen wrote, 'I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like' and thus introduces the handsome, clever, rich - and flawed, Emma Woodhouse. Emma is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage; nothing however delights her more than matchmaking her fellow residents of Highbury. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.

Fun Twist
Revisado: 09-27-18
Normally I do not like music playing in the background behind the narrator (usually because it's too loud & competes with the vocal portion) - but all the background sound effects in this version of Emma was wonderful. It was just like listening to a movie playing on the TV. The background effects did not hinder the narration at all. I also loved, loved, loved the various voices of all the characters. I think Audible is moving in the right direction of audible books - more like this book please.

Intense
Revisado: 07-28-18
Loved this story. Kate Forsyth did a wonderful job of researching the storyline & inserting real people within the plots. Very suspenseful. A narrator can make or break a book & Jennifer Vuletic did a fantastic job with her various character voices. Last night I awakened at 2 a.m., plugged in my earbuds & listened to the book (which usually helps me fall asleep quickly). However, 2 hrs later I was still listening to a very intense part of the story. Plus I couldn’t resist finishing the book today at work (sorry boss).
