Narration made it a slog
Revisado: 10-20-24
I liked the story, but the male narrator made this very hard to listen to. If I wasn’t listening to this for bookclub on essentially a deadline, I would have tried reading the book on Kindle an actual physical book. I think if I could’ve narrated it in my own mind, it would’ve been better.

A f*cking delight!
Revisado: 01-30-24
I don’t know what it says about me, that I found this book, so incredibly charming. I was hooked from the very beginning, and I mean very beginning when the narrators read the trigger warnings. Never has a list of trigger warnings made me want to listen to an audiobook. And the narration is top notch. A++ to the production company, who put this together. You often hear how much people dislike the narrators on audiobooks, and how that ruins the experience. This is a complete 180 where the performance will absolutely make you love this book. I highly, highly recommend a listen.

Historia
At last, the full story behind Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman's epic romance, including stories, portraits, and the occasional puzzle. How did they do it? They came from completely different families, endured a significant age difference, and were separated by the gulf of several social strata. Megan loved books and art history; Nick loved hammers. But much more than these seemingly unsurpassable obstacles were the values they held in common: respect, decency, the ability to mention genitalia in almost any context, and an abiding obsession with the songs of Tom Waits.

So enjoyable
Revisado: 05-05-23
If you are fans of Nick Offerman, and Megan Mullally, you’ll like this book. If you are familiar with their work, I’m sure you will enjoy it. It was a lot of fun to listen to them read the book, because it didn’t always feel like you were listening to them read a book– many times it felt like they were just talking to each other, talking to the listener, having a conversation. It was funny and a fun look inside the lives of two well known personalities.

Mizuki is a Japanese housewife. She has a hardworking husband, two adorable children, and a beautiful Tokyo apartment. It’s everything a woman could want, yet sometimes she wonders whether she would rather throw herself off the high-rise balcony than spend another evening not talking to her husband and hanging up laundry.

Like going back
Revisado: 11-23-22
I just moved back to America from Tokyo, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It was a lot of fun to hear the narrator describe life in Japan, and the neighborhoods that she explored, being so fresh in my mind. I think anyone who’s spent time in Japan, especially Tokyo, would enjoy the book the same way. I doubly enjoyed it because I am a mother, and my son is the same age as the boy in the book. I obviously couldn’t relate to other aspects of the book, but her narrative I think would be enjoyable by anyone nonetheless. Only weird thing I noted was the sometimes British vocabulary/slang that’s used by the narrator, even though her experience with English was supposed to be from her time in New York, but it didn’t really detract from the story. I recommend!

The narration was fantastic. The story kept me hooked the entire time. This is the second audiobook I’ve listened to by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and I’m looking forward to listening to more.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

I don’t know why, but I didn’t think I’d enjoy this book, but I really did. The full cast was so great. The interview style format was a very interesting method of storytelling. I definitely recommend this book.

Historia
February 1862. The Civil War is less than one year old. The fighting has begun in earnest, and the nation has begun to realize it is in for a long, bloody struggle. Meanwhile, President Lincoln’s beloved eleven-year-old son, Willie, lies upstairs in the White House, gravely ill. In a matter of days, despite predictions of a recovery, Willie dies and is laid to rest in a Georgetown cemetery. “My poor boy, he was too good for this earth,” the president says at the time. “God has called him home.”

Quick. Different. Interesting.
Revisado: 07-11-18
There are some chapters where the citation information stated frequently, which has a very weird affect for an audio book. Be prepared for that for that. But it was very fun to have such a varied cast of characters-I enjoyed it when I could recognize some of the famous voices cast in the story. The story itself was interesting, but left my mind wandering at times.
