I thought the premise might be too reminiscent of other contemporary novels, but it distinguished itself as a fresh take with some interesting twists. And laugh out loud funny in some parts.

Narrator Detracts from Provocative Memoir

Story and writing very compelling. Narrator not so. Odd pacing, mispronounced words and verbal inflections that don’t align to the content. Glad I listened through to the end, but wished I had read it instead.

Had High Hopes, But Disapponted

I was captivated by the premise of this book and had really enjoyed American Wife, so I had high hopes. But rather than adding more dimensions to Hillary Rodham, Sittenfield turned her into a fairly dull and unlikable person. Too bad, because some of the plot twists that came from the premise were intriguing.

Unbelievably Wonderful

This novel is wise, tender and funny. It is for every parent and every adult who loves any child is "not the norm" (in my experience nearly 100% aren't). Its messages are both universal and particular. In its particularities, it will cause you to reconsider American/Western notions of gender and identity. It opens a much needed window to the joys and challenges of being in relationship to a person whose gender assignment at birth just isn't working to unleash the best of that person.

Ridiculous from Start to Finish

I rarely feel the need to write a negative review. But this book is just ridiculous from start to finish. The premise is unbelievable and the way it unfolds is laughable. I don't know what got into Lisa Jackson, but an editor should have stopped this book from being published. Spend your money elsewhere.

Silly Plot, Ridiculous Characters

I love a good beach read and usually Elgin delivers. But this is a dud - only amusing bits are the Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard rivalry.

Absolutely ridiculous..

It requires more than a suspension of disbelief to make it through this one. Legal premises are absurd; physical capacity of lawyers is superhero level.
