Performance is awful
Revisado: 12-15-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I like to read YA fantasy but this book is really for little kids.
What could Chris Colfer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The performance was awful. Perhaps a professional could make this more tolerable.
How could the performance have been better?
I believe the author read the book. Went way too fast--no acting ability whatsoever.
What character would you cut from The Land of Stories?
Really doesn't matter.

A lesson in how professional narration could make a difference.

Historia
The first kiss occurred in a dimly lit hallway on the upper floor of Elwin Hastings' grand house. Louisa never saw it coming....Of course, Anthony Stalbridge couldn't possibly have had romantic intentions. The kiss was an act of desperation, meant to distract the armed guard who was about to catch the pair in a place they most definitely did not belong.

Great performance

What made the experience of listening to The River Knows the most enjoyable?
The performance was exceptional. You really get lost in the story with a narration of this caliber.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The River Knows?
I loved every minute of it. The pacing is exceptional.
Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not but in future, I would buy a book solely if she was performing.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I did love the ending.
Any additional comments?
Wonderful story enhanced by perfect performance.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Singular Episode
Revisado: 01-11-14
I enjoyed the story but the implication that generally German pilots were chivalrous knights of the sky should be avoided, which makes this event all the more extraordinary.

This fast-paced thriller tells the story of the pursuit and capture of John Wilkes Booth and gives a day-by-day account of the wild chase to find this killer and his accomplices. Based on James L. Swanson's best-selling adult book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer, this version, written especially for young people, is a fascinating look at the assassination of the 16th president of the United States.

Overdramatic
Revisado: 08-14-13
I really disliked the narration--it became melodramatic at times. If the prose isn't compelling enough, overacting won't help. Understanding the roles played by the aiders and abettors was interesting, but the main events were mostly a rehash. I would have liked to have heard a lot more about the trial.

Historia
The Treaty of Paris, in 1783, formally ended the American Revolutionary War, but it was the pivotal campaigns and battles of 1781 that decided the final outcome. 1781 was one of those rare years in American history when the future of the nation hung by a thread, and only the fortitude, determination, and sacrifice of its leaders and citizenry ensured its survival.

Pedestrian prose
Revisado: 08-14-13
Really needed a heavier hand with the editing. The prose became tedious at times, lacking in variety of sentence structure and phrasing. Repetitive at times in substance as well. I also didn't feel as it was bringing much new material to the table.

Can't believe I waited so long to read this
Revisado: 03-11-13
Fascinating front-row seat through a journalist's eyes--not a historian, but a writer who saw it as it happened. Interesting insight into the Mussolini/Hitler relationship.
