Depressing reality of contemporary Appalachian drug epidemic vividly told in the tradition of an Upton Sinclair tale.
Cannot imagine any other narrator doing such an effective job of immersing us in the experiences of the title character.

Really great concept, executed perfectly.

Dervla McTiernan has become one of my favorite crime novelists. She grabs you with a mystery “in media res” & pulls you along to its conclusion. Realistic & believable characters & dialogue. Having now read three of her books, I know I can count on a satisfying read.

Best writers were the ones who wrote summary/tease that got me to waste a credit on this. Gratuitous details that didn’t advance the story made this twice as long as it should have been.
