Okay story, but bad narration
Revisado: 07-11-24
The story is okay, although it reads more like a really good creative writing assignment than a published novel. The narration is monotone and rushed.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Historia
A century ago, Charles Darwin's revolutionary theory of evolution rocked the civilized world, and the outraged Anglican church went on the warpath against it. In a mansion in London's affluent Brunswick Gardens, the battle is intense, as that most respected clergyman, the Reverend Ramsay Parmenter, is boldly challenged by his beautiful assistant, Unity Bellwood - a "new woman" whose feminism and aggressive Darwinism he finds appalling.

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 07-26-23
The narrator decided to whisper one of the main characters’ dialogue throughout the entire book. It was difficult to hear, but hiking the volume only made the rest of the book far too loud. TBS, I do love a Pitt mystery.

Historia
The freshly dead body sprawled on the Bedford Square doorstep of General Brandon Balantyne is an affront to every respectable sensibility. The general denies all knowledge of the shabbily dressed victim who has so rudely come to death outside his home, but Superintendent Thomas Pitt cannot believe him - for in the dead man’s pocket, Pitt finds a rare snuffbox that recently graced the general’s study.

Narration is challenging, but good story
Revisado: 07-26-23
The narrator speeds through female characters and muddles through makes, which makes it impossible to set a good playback speed. TBS, the Pitt books are always interesting and engaging, so worth tolerating the narrator.

Couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 07-19-23
As per usual with Jeremy Robinson novels, the story starts with something familiar and so relatable that when everything goes off the rails it’s totally believable. The story is engaging, the characters are flawed but likable, and the scary/gross moments are all too real. Loved every minute of this trilogy!

Historia
The ritual murder of a prostitute named Ada McKinley in a bedroom on decrepit Pentecost Alley would ordinarily occasion no stir in Victoria's great metropolis. But under the victim's body the police find a Hellfire Club badge inscribed with the name Finlay Fitzjames - a name that instantly draws Superintendent Thomas Pitt into the case. Finlay's father - immensely wealthy, powerful, and dangerous - refuses to consider the possibility that his son has been in Ada McKinley's bed.

Yet even with the help of Charlotte Pitt’s subtle investigation, the sinister violence continues unchecked. Better narration!
Revisado: 07-05-23
I love the Pitt mysteries, so it’s a given I like the story. However, the change in narrators In the previous book was jarring. I think Ms. Sterlin made some needed adjustments to her style, and it worked. I enjoyed the book immensely and barely thought about the narration, which is exactly as it should be.
