Short but fun

This is a short compilation, but I found it very enjoyable. I just wish it was longer. Each story had a fun plot twist at the end, which I loved!

Very impactful
Revisado: 08-21-22
I don’t write many reviews, but I felt compelled to for this book.
I first encountered Zackary when the show “Chuck” debuted and I thoroughly enjoyed it and him, tuning in for each and every episode. I’ve seen him in various other shows and movies since then and was very interested when I heard that he’d written a book, especially one that dealt with mental health. I’m absolutely blown away by the sincerity and vulnerability that he bared in this book.
While I’m not at all famous, an actor, or religious, I felt like he was describing me almost to a T when talking through his own character traits, habits, and mentalities. Anchoring my self-worth and happiness to external sources of recognition and accomplishment…check. Experiencing super-high highs and ultra-low lows…check. Burying myself in dopamine inducing activities (parties, events, video games, drinking, etc)…check. Imposter syndrome…check. Feeling like I’d resolved my issues only to relapse months or years later…double check.
To me, there were a number of important things in this book, starting with the fact that he’s simply talking about and thereby helping to de-stigmatize mental heath issues. Gaining a better understanding of the root cause and talking through the many ways that he attempted to address and work with them, both the successes and failures (especially the failures) is extremely insightful. It was also a good reminder that all of us have struggles, no matter how successful one might appear to be. It’s truly refreshing to see someone of his visibility be so genuine, humble, and open. I’m generally turned off by famous personalities, but he seems like someone I’d truly enjoy talking to, should I ever have the chance.
In closing, I want to note that a number of people have been turned off by the amount of swearing that he does in the book. While I agree that there definitely is a lot, I would encourage people to bear with it, if any of this resonates with you. The message is a powerful and worthwhile one.

Superstar comedian and Hollywood box-office star Kevin Hart turns his immense talent to the written word by writing some words. Some of those words include: the, a, for, above, and even even. Put them together and you have the funniest, most heartfelt, and most inspirational memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself since Old Yeller.

Great listen, full of both comedy and life lessons
Revisado: 04-25-20
Kevin is quite a well known comedian these days and has been for some time now. I very much enjoy his work and decided to buy this book, based on the solid reviews, but mostly because it was on sale. ;)
Being that he a comedian, I was expecting it to be funny and he very much delivered on that. He really put his personality on display here and gave it almost a post-show, backstage pass vibe.
However, what I wasn’t so much expecting (and was delighted to discover) was how genuine and up front he was in discussing not only his successes in life, but also his failures. Kevin clearly has learned a lot through his mistakes and hearing him talk about how those shaped his life was inspiring and refreshing.

Ever since he and the Legion had been forced to flee their headquarters four years previous, nothing had gone quite right. In fact, Felix and the Legion have been locked in a shadow war with enemies unknown. Ones with magic that could carve through their technology easily.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 07-12-19
The story was hard to follow at times, with multiple jumps between scenes that didn't always make sense. Also, there was much more focus on the love tryst aspect in this one than in the previous two books, which I find distracting from the story. The narrator was fantastic, as always.

Historia
Zero is just one of 20,000 people aboard a spaceship bound for a new planet set to be colonized. The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. His initial excitement in roaming the ship alone quickly turns to a heart-stopping interstellar adventure when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and take the colonizers hostage.

Great production!
Revisado: 03-02-19
This is the first audio book that my kids (6 & 8) have listened to and so I wasn't sure how much they'd take it it. Both of them absolutely loved it! The production quality is very high with some light music, acoustic changes for different areas of the ship, and top notch narration. The story was perfect for their age and they really connected with Zero, the lad character. I typically let them listen for 20 minutes before bed each night which has been a great alternative for tv or anything else electronic.

A magical serial killer is on the loose, and gelatinous, otherworldly creatures are infesting the English countryside. Which is making life for the Ministry of Occultism difficult, because magic is supposed to be their best kept secret. Rather boring and far too drawn out
Revisado: 01-11-19
I'm familiar with Yahtzee from his video came review videos, which are always over-the-top, but funny. When I saw that he was writing books, I picked up "Will Save the Galaxy for Food" on sale and really liked it, so when I was really excited to listen to this. Unfortunately, it was quite a letdown for me. The story is droll and out-of-character for him. The characters were boring, the story dragged on with very little excitement or humor, and the ending was a letdown. Yahtzee did a solid job reading it though.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Very entertaining
Revisado: 08-07-18
I kept seeing this book pop up in my recommendations list and the ratings were pretty solid, so I decided to pick it up. The narration is excellent. I really love the voice inflections that he gives each of the characters. I also wasn't expecting it to be funny, so I was pleasantly surprised that it was. The story starts out a bit slow, but it really picks up about half way through. Looking forward to the next one!

The Power of Kindness is a stirring examination of a simple but profound concept. Good but wish it had some practice activities
Revisado: 08-09-17
The narrator was spot on...very easy to listen to and has a pleasant voice. The book was helpful in terms of laying out the benefits of kindness, but I would have really liked to have had the author include a few suggestions for activities/practices to being more mindful of being kind, as that's where I struggle.
