Some great development. Some would say the story moves slowly, but I appreciated being with Mertagh and Thorn as they processed through their past. Going through that internal development made the action at the end all the more meaningful.

For me, the sign of a great book is feeling a connection with the characters.  They become friends you agonize with, hope with and celebrate with.  The concept of bravery versus cowardice is explored in meaningful ways that allow for personal introspection.  The perfect balance between action and character development is struck.  This book seems to have more science fiction than fantasy with a believable twist at the end that will pleasantly surprise.  And, as a Sanderson book always does, the book ends on a satisfying note and at the same time leaves you craving more.

Now I know why it is that I can sit down to work on a program and all body functions except my brain slow or cease to function. While I do not claim the brilliance and genius of those who opened the world of computers and hacking to the world, I now feel better that I’m not alone.

A great and entertaining read of a world transforming around me while I was muddling my way through childhood and teen years. I definitely came late to the game and didn’t even write a Pac-Man clone before starting college, but I love programming now and can’t put it away, even after a long work week spent on company applications. And now I find myself wanting to write a game in assembly language... perhaps in celebration of those early hackers who paved the road for generations now and to come.

The Way of Kings seemed to focus on Kaladdin and Words of Radiance on Shallan. This one seems to focus on Dallinar. I found it refreshing to gain more insight into spryn and their relationship to others. That, of course, has been developed in previous books, but Oathbringer seems to do a good job at scratching that itch. In classic Sanderson style, each part ends cleanly and with style. And when the book ends, Brandon kindly encourages me to come back later when the next book in the series is released.

Like the world of Harry Potter, I so wish that I could travel to Roshar and join the ranks of Bridge 4. Characters are real and the world physics are consistent and fascinating. The time spent reading was well worth it and I look forward to my next re-read in a year or so.

I was looking for something new and came across this. I wonderful discovery!

To me, character development is one of the most important things in a book. This book did not disappoint. The characters become real. I jump for joy at their successes I cry with their sorrows. The conflict between two key races was developed beautifully. There's still much to figure out about each character and what role they will play in the next book. I am truly looking forward to continuing this adventure in the books to come.

I know I've read a good book when I find myself wanting to meet the main characters to offer condolences or congratulations. I found Kaladan's inner struggle quite believable and even felt catharsis when he made a pivotal decision at the end of the book.

I look forward to more development of the storm light powers that have been introduced. Brandon has always done a great job with taking a concept and allowing his readers to see that concept at all sides and all angles (checkout Elantris and the Mistborn series). If you value character development and great narrators, you should really enjoy this. And if you have a sizable commute, you will appreciate the length of the audio book as well.

balancing action and character development

Not all audio books are the same. I love the use of different voices to tell the story; far from a monotone voice droning on, each chapter starts out almost like a radio drama. After all, the book is written to be read. And though there is plenty of action detailed, it is fascinating to take this journey through the mind of a brilliant child. In many ways, the journey of the mind and behavioral development is more fascinating than any high octane action sequence.

Bravo, Orson, on your complimentary achievement to Ender's Game. Although the author says that Ender's Shadow could be read separate from Ender's Game and be enjoyed, I would highly encourage would-be fans to read Ender's Game first so you can enjoy the thrill of discovery. Trust me; you'll understand. And then attempt to quence your thirst for more by reading Ender's Shadow.

A good story can still put you to sleep if it is read in a monotone. John McAndrew has a wonderful accent and does a great job giving voices to the various characters. A pleasure to listen to.

Wonderful book, wonderful narration

Sometimes a good audio book lacks in the storyteller, but not here. Gerard Doyle does a marvelous job, maintaining voice character all throughout. The effect is like watching a movie through your mind without getting tired. C. Paolini has created a world that seems compatible with most published fantasy worlds, but more importantly, develops a personal relationship between man and dragon. Also, the creative science to magic is explained; you often read of the effects of fictional magic, but C. Paolini explains its mechanics, laws, and boundaries through the charater Eragon - it's not merely the mentioning of a few simple words.

I'm on my second time through it, my wife listening this time with me. It's a story that can be enjoyed multiple times.

I look forward to the other books in this series (Eragon is the first) being included in the Audible library.
