She intends to quickly tie up loose ends then return to her busy life and thriving antique shop in New Orleans. It took me quite a few chapters to care about the people in the story, but I finally got pulled into their lives and was glad I listened to this book.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

This book taught me history and a new view
Revisado: 10-12-18
I couldn't put this book down until I finished. Through the story, I felt compassion for everyone involved in the lives of the two sisters. It broadened my view of WWII and the many sacrifices made by unrecognized people caught up in the horrors of war.

Loved it!
Revisado: 10-12-18
I've read other books by Lisa Wingate and once again, her writing left me in awe. Her voice, her style, the crafting of characters made me want to keep my earbuds in place until I finished. I especially enjoyed the novel within a novel and the conclusion Lisa gave the story. I will pick up more of her books in the future. She writes clean, uplifting stories with a message and history blended together in perfect balance. The language used doesn't cause me to blush as I read. Her books leave me with a feeling of hope and I choose to read books that foster that mindset.

Brilliant story, told well.
Revisado: 04-12-18
I wish I could give this book a plus after the five stars. This is the third book that I've read by Lisa Wingate. It's by far my favorite one. The story pulled me in from page one. I couldn't stop listening to it. I loved the two points of view that she used - past and present. Even though my heart broke throughout the story, I finished the story filled with hope in the courage and resiliency of the human spirit. Rill had a tenacity and strength that illustrated to me the love of family. A wonderful story based on a true atrocity in our nation's history. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a well-written novel that blends modern-day experience with historical fiction. Brilliant writing.
