Story was interesting.

But I didn’t like the narrators voice. I also disliked the book being written in the first person. Not my style.

Confusing timelines ruined this story for me.
Revisado: 04-05-24
The Anastasia chapters were very interesting. The Anna chapters were so jumbled up first going forward, then back, back again, reversing course so many time it was impossible to follow. Maybe as a physical book it would be easier to follow, but that defeats the purpose of an audiobook, doesn’t it?
I should have listened to the reviews that detailed this jumping around but I took a chance. Big mistake.

Revisado: 03-16-24
Not as satisfying as the other Holly novels, but not as bad as some reviews would lead one to believe. I just wish Mr. King could keep politics out of his novels. I read his books to escape, not to be lectured.

I didn’t like the amount of detail in the rape descriptions, I thought it was unnecessary and made it hard to listen to.

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

I've Read my last Daniel Silva novel.
Revisado: 03-23-22
I always enjoyed Daniel Silva, especially the Gabriel Allon series. That is until Mr. Silva decided to riddle the book with contemporary political commentary. Totally turned off by this and in fact didn't listen to his thinly disguised rant via the voice of Gabriel during the last 2 hours of the book. If I wanted political commentary from a liberal I'd turn on CNN. Won't be reading more Daniel Silva and won't be recommending him. Sad.

Predictable.
Revisado: 06-01-17
I disliked the narrator portraying the older woman in the story. Her voice was a little irritating to me.
I felt the story was very predictable, and quite honestly the main character came off as a whiney, selfish and immature child, very difficult to like or even feel sorry for. I struggled to finish this book.

Historia
Was Mary Magdalene a prostitute, a female divinity figure, a church leader, or all of those? Biblical references to her are tantalizingly brief, but we do know that she was the first person to whom the risen Christ appeared - and the one commissioned to tell others the good news, earning her the ancient honorific "Apostle to the Apostles". Today, Mary continues to spark controversy, curiosity, and veneration. In a vivid re-creation of Mary Magdalene's life story, Margaret George convincingly captures this renowned woman's voice.

I love Margaret George, but. . .
Revisado: 11-09-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
this book was very slow, too many details, much too much dialogue.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
We all know the ending.
What didn’t you like about Kate Reading’s performance?
I did not like the voice, it did not have enough variation in the inflection.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Mary, Called Magdalene?
Too many minute details.

Historia
On July 23, 2007, Dr. William Petit suffered an unimaginable horror: Armed strangers broke into his suburban Connecticut home in the middle of the night, bludgeoned him nearly to death, tortured and killed his wife and two daughters, and set their house on fire. He miraculously survived, and yet living through those horrific hours was only the beginning of his ordeal. Broken and defeated, Bill was forced to confront a question of ultimate consequence: How does a person find the strength to start over and live again after confronting the darkest of nightmares?

Interesting.
Revisado: 10-18-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Rising to be better than the print version?
I did not read the print version.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator had too much of a staccato voice, I did not enjoy the performance but the content was very interesting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No.
Any additional comments?
I was interested in hearing the whole story of the crime. I would have been interested in more details of what happened in the house, but I did like hearing about the Petit foundation and its good work.
