Historia
When you've got nothing left, you've got nothing left to lose. Cass County, Minnesota: A sheriff's deputy steps out of a diner on a rainy summer evening, and a few minutes later, he's lying dead in the mud. When BCA agent Kirk Stevens arrives on the scene, he discovers local authorities have taken into custody a single suspect: a hysterical young woman found sitting by the body, holding the deputy's own gun. She has no ID, speaks no English. A mystery woman.

Idiotic mayhem
Revisado: 03-04-25
Lots of plot errors. Way too long. The FBI would have no trouble detaining indefinitely a person in the country illegally, without identification or resources, and inability to speak English. In these "action/adventure" novels, why are the authorities a bunch of bumbling idiots and the criminals unstoppable geniuses?

When Columbus first returned to Spain from the Caribbean, he dazzled King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella with exotic parrots, tropical flowers, and bits of gold. Inspired by the promise of riches, countless seafarers poured out of the Iberian Peninsula and wider Europe in search of spices, treasure, and land. Many returned with strange tales of the New World. Curiosity began to percolate through Europe as the New World’s people, animals, and plants ruptured prior assumptions about the biblical description of creation.

frequent mispronunciations
Revisado: 11-15-24
The reader frequently mispronounces common English words, foreign words, well-known historical names, places. I was so distracted by the mispronunciations that I found myself often unengaged with the text. The reader's dialect sounds American, but his knowledge of his own language (and others) sounds "high-schoolishly" underdeveloped.

Historia
Here is a visionary analysis of how the politics of fear, secrecy, cronyism, and blind faith have combined with the public sphere's degradation to create an environment dangerously hostile to reason. Never has there been a worse time for us to lose the capacity to face the reality of our long-term challenges, from national security to the economy, from issues of health and social welfare to the environment. As The Assault on Reason explains, we have precious little time to waste.

Silly Attempt at Political Satire
Revisado: 04-17-20
The story sounds like a beer-fueled adolescent party spin-off of a Trump rally. Total nonsense. The reader makes a valiant effort, however, and displays a real talent for prose interpretation. Too bad his talent is being wasted on such literary fluff.

Good Source of Audio News
Revisado: 11-13-19
I don't have time to listen to all of these, so I download only the latest issue. The last forty issues are kept in my Library cloud for me. I use the Chapters navigation to listen, so I can skim and skip through stories that don't interest me. It takes about ten minutes to breeze through an issue, which I then Mark as Finished and remove from my phone. As for the issues I don't have time for, I Mark them as Finished using the three-dot menu on the cloud. I hope this information helps those of you who are frustrated with what is a very good and free audio program.

Historia
The Bourne Identity meets Divergent in this action-packed debut thriller with a Katniss-esque heroine fighting to regain her memories and stay alive, set against a dystopian hospital background.
Sarah starts a crazy battle for her life within the walls of her hospital-turned-prison when a procedure to eliminate her memory goes awry and she starts to remember snatches of her past. Was she an urban terrorist or vigilante? Has the procedure been her salvation or her destruction?
The answers lie trapped within her mind. To access them, she'll need the help of the teen computer hacker who's trying to bring the hospital down for his own reasons, and a pill that's blocked by an army of mercenary soldiers poised to eliminate her for good. If only she knew why…
"This is a snap-the-whip story, dark and fast. The sparks of humor in the voice won me over. Bottom line: I think the cocktail of suspense and believable smart-assery adds up to an addictive dose of reader appeal." —Blythe Woolston, author of the William C. Morris Award winner The Freak Observer

Unrealistic
Revisado: 07-31-19
Why is it, in adventure stories written by women, that at times when the hero/heroine has only moments before the bad guys arrive, the hero/heroine always engages in a ten-minute conversation with another character?

Historia
Faced with the ceaseless stream of news about war, crime, and terrorism, one could easily think we live in the most violent age ever seen. Yet as New York Times bestselling author Steven Pinker shows in this startling and engaging new work, just the opposite is true: violence has been diminishing for millennia and we may be living in the most peaceful time in our species's existence.

needs editing
Revisado: 04-03-19
book is too long by at least half. a good editor might turn this into a decent treatise, but it is an overly repetitive, erudite, verbose wall of a book. the reader does a good job, and I don't blame him for the overall monotony. basic idea: the world is less violent today than in the past. a more narrative, less philosophical structure would be a better vehicle for demonstrating the obvious.
