4 books is still really good
Revisado: 11-27-24
The books are short but good. I like the characters and the mc. The political aspect is compelling and competently written. A bit of a wait between the books so the short recap is actually really helpful. Joggles the memory.
The big con I have is that some of the awkward phrasing and way of writing is bleeding in from the other series. In there I understand it's aping the style and writing of translated Xianxia. Which is the key here. It's not actually good writing or english. Hence I'd prefer it be kept separate from this series when not necessary. This is my only real critique and what I wish the author would improved on.
I got used to the narrator switch by the end The male voice is good. The female is decent but preferred the previous one.

I felt the start after the initial bit of the story to be a bit slow and boring since it consisted mostly of fights without much story relevance or motivation beyond survival. Thankfully after that things picked up for me and we actually get to the meat of things. All the fundamentals end up pretty solid and thus it's a decent book (and thus one of the better ones in the genre). It Held my interest till the end except for the initial hickup.
The premise is an alternate urban fantasy earth which is then shaken up and transportation to another world.

SS but doesn't realize it
Revisado: 09-25-23
It's one of those books yeah. It's clever and funny, but it comes with a self deluded protagonist which is kind of exhausting too. It's played for laughs and it's fine for now, but I don't know if I can take an entire series worth of it. Ideally theres going to be character growth, hopefully.
Regardless I do recommend the book.

It's good
Revisado: 02-04-23
LIke, it's short, but it's short because it's good. And now you have to wait for the next book. Oh the pain. Again, I liked the characters, Matilda was fun and Adelheid's conflict with her father was very delicious. I liked the fact that the story managed to drag a modicum of emotion out of me at the end.

Historia
Beautiful and brilliant sorcerer girls just can't have nice things, huh? All I wanted to do was swipe a little bit of bandit treasure. Now suddenly I'm being chased around by icky trolls, nasty demons, mean mummies, and brooding golem bad boys. And for what? A tiny little artifact that can bring about the end of the world? Hah! I'll show them there's a reason you don't cross Lina Inverse...

Short and good
Revisado: 01-04-23
It's short but also doesn't feel incomplete. Lina makes for a very entertaining lead and the cast's antics managed to get a few chuckles out of me. So the comedy kinda works which is not a very frequent occurrence for me.
I also have to specifically praise the Narrator. this is one of the few cases where the performance just straight up elevates the work. I don't know if it's nostalgia for the tv show or what, so this might be subjective to me specifically. So if you're nostalgic like me you'll get a kick out of hearing the narrator.

All-around excellent
Revisado: 12-14-22
Honestly even better than her other series. just different though as Candle is very different from Maud. The book grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go. It's no tome but I felt a lot happened since the story moves at a fast pace. The worldbuilding and characters were on point. Even the narrator did a good job.
Just all around excellent fantasy.

Authentic World
Revisado: 09-05-22
This one was again a good one imo.
I kind of went in with the expectation of having to give the book leeway and paper over some annoyances to enjoy it, probably because I just finished a book where I had to do that. But no, no such thing necessary here. Just let the characters and the world wash over you. They're well written. Kick back and enjoy it.
There's enough details about the world and the life there to make it feel not just a generic backdrop, and you really do get the feeling of what it's like to live in this world. Whether it's as a farming community dealing with a famine or later working in a tavern while learning magic and everything in-between. There's always details to immerse you in the world.
I was a bit leery of a bard as the mc, it just wasn't a compelling hook for me, but the magic system won me over. She builds a repertoire of versatile and fun abilities which was fun to watch as she worked them out and I'm giddy to see her use them more in the next book.
I ended up really liking it and kinda hoping I could've given it a five. Perhaps next time ;p

Recommend!
Revisado: 08-25-22
This is from the better end of the genre. A well thought out world, I liked the characters, the inventions were thought out and researched. That's not always the case in this genre, you know.
There's not many straight up fights, but there's other forms of action in character interactions and politics which were well written, so I sure as hell wasn't bored.
More like 4.5 which I normally would have put up as a 4, but this story plays into my preferences so I'll round it up to a 5.
For the audiobook the two narrators worked well, especially the primary one who I enjoyed a lot.
I had a really good time and would recommend!
