Historia
When a badly mutilated body washes up on the shores of Loch Ness, DCI Jack Logan's dream of a quiet life in the Highlands is shattered. While the media speculates wildly about monster attacks, Jack and the Major Investigations Team must act fast to catch the killer before they can strike again. But with Nessie-hunters descending on the area in their dozens, and an old enemy rearing his ugly head, the case could well turn out to be the most challenging of Jack's career. And, if he isn't careful, the last.

Fantastic Scottish Accent!
Revisado: 10-31-21
I'm really loving this series. The humour of the police squad helps offset the grimness of some of the story elements. i was guffawing out loud at some of the banter.
Oooh --- and the narrators Scottish accent is so spot on!!

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

Fun light Rom-Com

This was just what I needed for the waning days of this COVID winter.
It's a fun contemporary romantic comedy that was light and funny. The narration was spot on, and the length was just right at 6 hours. I'm feeling like Goldilocks right about now. :-)

Historia
It’s 1929 in New York City. In an apartment high above Lexington Avenue, the painter Georgia O’Keeffe feels stuck. At 42, she should be at the apex of her powers as an artist, and yet something is missing. Her husband - the gallerist Alfred Stieglitz, who helped build her reputation in the art world - has grown needy and insecure, not to mention unfaithful. More than this, her work has lost its fire, and she knows it. The calla lilies and poppies for which she is revered now seem careful, predictable.

Georia O'keefe as she discovers New Mexico
Revisado: 01-15-21
I loved this small glimpse into the live of Georgia O'Keefe. I've read quite a bit about her, and visited all the places described in New Mexico. It was a wonderful slice of calm in my day.
The Audible narration by actress/narrator Cynthia Nixon was well paced.

Fast-Paced thriller -- excellent narration!
Revisado: 08-18-20
This was a good first book in a series that currently only has two books. Set in northern British Columbia, Canada -- we meet Olivia Wilde who is trying to set her past as a kidnapping victim behind her. But the past doesn't want to be forgotten.
I enjoyed the multiple threads of all the various characters and the touch of romance. I did guess a major part of the who-dun-it aspect before the end, but that didn't diminish my enjoyment of this fast-paced thriller.
I will soon pick up the second book in the series, but I need to catch my breath from this one first.

Greaet start to kid's paranormal adventure series
Revisado: 09-02-19
This is the first book in the 'Wierdbey Island' series by Eldritch Black. It's a kids series with paranormal elements. This one involves cursed pirates, a giant octopus and a 12-year-old boy trying to fit into a new community. This is an adventure series about kids overcoming the odds to try to save the town unbeknownst to the ignorant adults.
I've been to the series setting, Whidbey Island, WA, many times. I liked that the author was accurate with the descriptions of the island flora, fauna and geography. I was previewing this for my 7 year-old nephew. I think the series is a little advanced for him yet, but I'll hold onto it for him and share it when he's a couple of years older.
J. Scott Bennett narrated the book with skill. I liked the voices that he was able to conjure up for the main characters. His pirate voice, "Arggghhhhh there Matey!" just made me chuckle.

Fun 2nd book in kids series -- Great narration
Revisado: 09-02-19
This is the second installment in the 'Wierdbey Island' series by Eldritch Black. It's a kids series with paranormal elements. I enjoyed the story in the first book better, but I'm coming to love the main protagonist and his three chums. I'm interested to see where the next adventure will take them. I was previewing this for my 7 year-old nephew. I think the series is a little advanced for him yet, but I'll hold onto it for him and share it when he's a couple of years older.
The narrator, J. Scott Bennett did a wonderful job throughout the book. He was able to use unique voices for the many characters, even a dreaded Jackalope!

Funny murder mystery - Texas Ranger style
Revisado: 07-17-19
What a funny, rollicking crime thriller! This is the first in a series by Scott Bell, and I listened to the audio format of the book. Be warned though, it is liberally sprinkled with F-bombs and other swearing. If you're put off by that you may want to avoid this book.
The story opens with our main character, Sam Cable - Texas Ranger coming out of a drug induced blackout laying naked next to the dead body of the a female Senatorial candidate that he was meant to be guarding. The scene, even though it involved a dead body, was with written with a lot of tongue in cheek humor. From there the story line rockets off. The sly (and not so sly) humor continues throughout the book.
This is jam packed with action, and moves at a quick pace. I loved the interactions with Sam and his older brother, Matt.
The narration was outstanding. The only thing that bugged me a little was that the female lead came from the New York City area. Her accent for the most part seemed more Irish than New Yorker -- her voice was the one I liked the least. But for the plethora of characters presented in the book, overall the narration was great.
"Thanks" to the narrator, J Scott Bennett, for the free Audible credit in exchange for an honest review of this audio book.

Olahoma Dust Bowl story with mystery element
Revisado: 07-11-19
This story is about the trials and tribulations of the Owens family and the small town in the Oklahoma panhandle that they live in during the Dust Bowl years. (1930 - 1936)
I didn't notice that the genre was Christian Fiction until I'd received a free Audible credit in exchange for an honest review of the book. This isn't normally a genre that I gravitate toward, but the Christian element was handled with a light hand. It did not overpower the story.
I felt that the story was just a tad bit long. There are many, many scenes about having to sweep up dust from everywhere; placing wet clothes over noses and mouths; coughing up dust, etc. Most parts of the book were as brown and dreary as the surroundings and the era being described. If that was the author's intent, then the book was a success. I was weighed down by the unending hopelessness of the town, and the people.
This is a coming of age story, a murder mystery and a hero story about battling against all odds.
I listened to the audio version of the book, and there were a few production issues. Sometimes the narration sounded muted, or like the narrator was speaking from a long distance. Once it awhile while trying to produce a Southern accent (I think) the narrator sounded a bit like she was speaking around rocks in her mouth. The diction wasn't the clearest, and the pacing was a bit slow for me. Towards the end I turned up the narration speed to 1.20, and that improved the listening experience for me.
