my overall rating is due to the weird pauses the narrator takes. he did great voices, but the pauses just annoyed me. you get used to it after a while

I love these books
Revisado: 02-28-22
the reason I put a 4 instead of a 5 is superficial, but annoying to me. I left a similar review before. the narrator places odd pauses in weird locations throughout the reading, but his voices are great. the editor didn't catch simple mistakes, again. for example, geldings are male horses, not female. a character is referred to as one pronoun throughout the book, then suddenly referred to as another for a couple sentences, then back to the original pronoun. a cairn was in one location, but at the end of the book, was magically at another. just small things, but they tended to take me out of the story. overall, enjoyable, and if you aren't pedantic like me, you'll probably enjoy them greatly.

Historia
Drem and his friends are haunted by the horrors they witnessed at the battle at Starstone Lake: the screams of men being warped into beasts and the sight of a demon rising from the dead. But worse than any memory is Fritha, the demons' deadly high priestess. And she is hunting them. Concealed in Forn Forest, Riv knows her very existence as a half-breed is a threat to the Ben-Elim. She represents their most dangerous secret - and if the warrior angels find her, they won't hesitate to silence her.

I love this series
Revisado: 02-13-22
my reason for taking off a star is because I'm not sure if it's the writer's editor, or the narrator's editor at fault for not catching the amount of interchanged pronouns for characters that don't have mixed pronouns, making it hard to follow along at times. the other problem, and I know it's miniscule, but in the last book, a "necklace" was lost in the mine. in this book, it is magically back without any note of how it came back. in fact, at one point it's said it never left the character's neck. it's very small parts of the overall sorry, but I found it distracting. otherwise, I really enjoy these books.

the narrator is great. the story...
Revisado: 03-11-21
I enjoyed the narrator. the story has some MAJOR distracting plot holes. I won't spoil the story, but I found myself rolling my eyes throughout much it. I tried to let go and enjoy. I was able to for some parts, maybe because the narrator is so good, but damn, the plot holes are huge. like, I usually give grace to YA novels. I'm not saying it needs to be PERFECT, but I literally don't understand why people would try to say this is an amazing book. it's not. I spent so much time asking "why would you choose to do that, when you have a completely different option available that makes way more sense?"
honestly, I'm reading through the reviews and I think a lot of the positive reviews are from the author's friends or something. the 1 star review really detailed the issues I had with this book perfectly. it's predictable, no character development, way too focused on dialogue than actions, and the PLOT HOLES are so wide you can drive a semi through them.

I couldn't finish it
Revisado: 03-29-20
I really liked the Priory of the Orange Tree by this same author, so I tried to listen to this book. The melodramatic reading from the narrator coupled with the very standard YA romance/adventure type book just made me itch. I couldn't get into it. I read a review from someone saying that a lot of the main character's actions didn't make sense, and I thought to myself that some people react differently during situations. No, they were right. It reminds me of the Adam Ellis comic with the "My name is Wicker Basket and I am the chosen one. I'm very plain but also GORGEOUS..." Look it up, it's very apropos to this book. Usually I don't review books if it's not for me, but is written well, however I feel like I need to warn people that came here with the same intention I did after reading the Priory: this is obviously this author's first book. Its awkward and hard to listen to.

FANTASTIC BOOK
Revisado: 10-13-19
The reason for the 4 stars is due to times where I couldn't figure out if the person was saying something or simply thinking it. I can't tell if it's due to the writing or the narrator's interpretation. Either way, it made the book difficult at times to follow. Otherwise, can't recommend it more :)
