A sweet return to Widdershins
Revisado: 08-14-24
I very much enjoyed the story, though I wish we had more magic being explored by a protagonist as with the first series, but I can understand the author wanting to change up their protagonists' proclivities. I still very much enjoyed it!

An easy listen
Revisado: 07-07-24
It might not have been epic, thought-provoking, or complicated, but it was very easy to listen to and enjoy. it was functionally entertaining even without hitting any high notes, and I don't regret spending the credit to get it.

Excellent Story & Performance
Revisado: 06-23-24
Not my usual fare, but I think it speaks to how well written this novel was (and how well narrated it was) that I enjoyed it enough to give 5 stars in spite of that. As a fantasy buff, I don't usually find gritty realism enjoyable, but trying this on a whim proved an excellent decision. Andrew and Jamie were well-written, credible, and I could easily get attached to them and the plot was compelling.

Historia
For centuries, the Believer cult has preyed on arcane mages from their place in the shadows. Now, for better or worse, Sage has taken arcane magic public, and all eyes are on him. While he’s not comfortable in the spotlight, neither is the cult that wants him dead. But the Believers aren’t quite ready to give up yet. In this fifth and final book in the Fantastic Fluke series, they’ll take their shot at burning down Sage’s whole network of friends and associates, by whatever means necessary.

A Satisfying Coclusion
Revisado: 12-22-23
A great sendoff for the series! While it looks pretty obvious that this is apparently the end of our adventures with Sage, Gideon, and Fluke, I'm hoping the author continues to write more in the same setting and we at least get to see cameos. I really enjoyed the adventure from start to finish!

Much Better
Revisado: 11-24-23
After the long slog of book 1 with its drawn-out, almost agonizingly slow pace where things happened but it was hard to tell, I almost gave up on the series. Fortunately I was convinced to give book 2 a try. This feels a lot like the old X-men when those comics were relatively fresh, with enough twist in the mechanics to keep it interesting. The story isn't the most groundbreaking or philosophically engaging, but it hits the major points along with an entertaining plot and characters that have started to get interring enough to drive the narrative. I give the story five stars. The narration was excellent.

Loved it. Was surprised how good this was, probably because there are so many bad ones out there. This is not one of the bad ones. Great narration, excellent plot and pacing, and interesting characters. Definitely getting the next one.

Historia
It’s been a long year for Sage and his friends, and all of Junction, California, and it’s not over yet. Freddy's school of magic is still a mystery, and figuring it out would be enough work, but the investigation leads them to the mysterious coded notes of Junction’s long-dead first magical artist, and then to the last place any of them ever expected to end up: the 19th century. Worse yet, when they get there, Fluke is missing, and Sage isn’t sure he can get back home without his best friend. If Sage has to leave him behind, is it worth returning to his own time at all?

Revisado: 09-14-22
Zachary's narration has really improved. Gideon actually sounded like a cowboy at points! Well done! The story of course was entertaining, and it was honestly a relief for Sage to finally escape being the main focus of malevolent attention for once. I was really feeling bad for the poor guy! I cannot wait for the next installment of their adventures!

Phenomenal writing. Narration needs work.
Revisado: 08-03-22
I absolutely loved the writing, and in spite of the narrator, I could actually hear the characters in my mind. The story was great, and it made up for narration that was mediocre at best. I wish I'd gotten the book instead though. Hopefully the narrator takes the opportunity to improve. There's certainly quite a lot there.
