Narration makes me cringe.
Revisado: 05-11-21
Maybe the story was decent but I honestly couldn’t get past the narration. It was a little much.

The Fluffiest of All Fluff
Revisado: 10-30-20
The fluffiest of all fluff.
I'm really not even sure how to elaborate in greater detail, but once you start reading, you'll understand.
I was also really disappointed that the writer consistently uses quotes from other writers as if they are her own including multiple quotes from Rudy Francisco (in the audiobook, this occurs around the 48:50 mark & probably many more times, I just know my Rudy when hear him).
No real sustenance here. Use those skills you mastered in 5th grade DARE classes and "just say no".

On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

It's A Hard Pass For Me...
Revisado: 08-27-20
I opted to read this book because of the incredibly high rating and I think I ended up coming away from having read it with the understanding that I only disliked it so profusely because of my unique personality type. To be frank, I felt like I was in a Kumbaya session with a flock of menstruating women who were having an overly-emotional discussion about their feelings that made me long for escape, which was, in this case, the relief of having finally reached the conclusion of the audiobook. It's a hard pass for me, but it's not at all based on a reflection of the author or her level of knowledge and research, but instead a matter of personal preference.

In this essential volume, Dr. Peale takes the positive thinking idea a step further. By employing a potent mental process called "imaging", you can eliminate problems and take firm control of your life. Keeping a clear and vivid picture of a desired goal in your mind until it becomes part of your subconscious will help you actualize your objectives by releasing previously untapped inner energies.

Psycho-Cybernetics > Whatever This Is
Revisado: 07-30-20
I honestly have no idea why this book has such a high rating. It's basically a watered down, subpar version of a combination of "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz and "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy. I think people who rated it highly must have never read the other two. I recommend choosing that route instead.

Historia
"The tragedies keep coming. As we reel from the latest horror..." So begins a new epilogue, illustrating how Columbine became the template for nearly two decades of "spectacle murders". It is a false script, seized upon by a generation of new killers. In the wake of Newtown, Aurora, and Virginia Tech, the imperative to understand the crime that sparked this plague grows more urgent every year. What really happened April 20, 1999? The horror left an indelible stamp on the American psyche, but most of what we "know" is wrong.

Disappointed by clear religious biases
Revisado: 07-05-20
I enjoyed the book overall but was quite frankly, wildly offended by the author’s clear biased tendencies when talking about religion and the various denominations and their practices within the story itself. Totally unnecessary and very obvious.

Historia
In 1955, former nightclub manageress Ruth Ellis shot dead her lover, David Blakely. Following a trial that lasted less than two days, she was found guilty and sentenced to death. She became the last woman to be hanged in Britain, and her execution is the most notorious of hangman Albert Pierrepoint's 'duties'. Despite Ruth's infamy, the story of her life has never been fully told. Often wilfully misinterpreted, the reality behind the headlines was buried by an avalanche of hearsay.
