Cheesy cover but phenomenal story

This author is an auto-buy for me. They weave unique plots, almost non-stop action, and true character development into their stories. This series got categorized as romance by the publisher but it is an incredibly slow burn romance and is more along the lines of an urban fantasy book. It's there by the time the series ends and it's solid, but it takes a while to get there and it really isn't the primary focus. The narrator does a great job and is consistent throughout the series.

Sweet and full on sexy

I loved the characters and the plot. The only downside is that the character development is along the lines of a novella. It doesn't feel empty, just shallow as you realize that, like the characters, you don't know very much about them either.

Still a superb series!

There is the introduction of a new villain in this book and there are some developments with Merit's vampire nature but otherwise, it was a pretty typical Chicagoland book. There were a few situations going on simultaneously, a mystery to unravel, and a few things going on with the side characters. My only complaint is that it didn't feel like much progress was made in the main story arc. To be fair, I think that two other items in this book could eventually tie into the arc but aren't evident at this point. It was still an enjoyable time spent in the Chicagoland Vampires world so I can't complain.

Great book if you can get past the self-hate

If you can accept that a woman is prone to suffer from low self esteem after getting emotionally kicked to the curb and the manifestations of said self-esteem aren't a pet peeve of yours to read about, this is a great book. Unfortunately, I know a lot of people would be turned off from this book for that alone because it can be frustrating to watch someone sabotage their happiness due to low self-esteem. It wasn't unbearable and because it wasn't without cause, I didn't mind it. Instead, I was happy to read about some very intense sexual encounters, the breakdown of walls, and the happily ever after that was long overdue.

Long but humorous and action packed

Fun story about the pain and embarrassment of unrequited love, a series of misfortune events, adapting to new circumstances, and the awesomeness of great friends. The only downside about this book is the suspension of reality required to accept that a person can walk away from so many close calls.

Doesn't stand out in a sea of similar books

The performance itself was very good but seeing as I consume so many of these types of books, the story has to be able to stand out for me to enjoy it. There isn't anything that stands out as bad though, I simply didn't enjoy it.

Completely illogical!

My biggest complaint is that it is completely illogical. I mean my brain was screaming "WHAT THE HELL?" the whole time I was reading. You can't connect to characters, or a story for that matter, if their actions or responses make no sense. The dudes seem to exhibit multiple personality disorder yet she continues to hang out with them. She withdraws from school during her last semester to take a job working for Dude A which requires her to travel across the country the very next day (this is a decision made in a manner of seconds, btw). Huh???? They don't really know each other, he acts like a total chauvinist and even manhandles her and she's willing to drop out of school for some job she knows virtually nothing about?

Flat delivery and inconsistencies in the story

I did not finish this book. I listened to it for a couple of hours and was practically bored to tears. The narrator's delivery was rather flat and she kept say "vagley" instead of vaguely, it drove me nuts. Then it got to the point where something was stated that completely contradicted something stated earlier and I was done.

Bad sound quality

This is the first book I've listened to that I could hear car horns and road noise in the background. The story itself was pretty good though.

I just did not like the direction this story took after Part I. It kept spiraling into a bigger mess and the whole "the people with power make the rules" thing was uncomfortable to listen to.
