Every white person needs to read this book as a beginning.

This book is not meant to be the beginning and end to racial study. It’s an introduction to subverting and overturning the implicit biases and racism. Please for the love of all that is holy read this book, but DON’T STOP THERE.

Absolutely loved listening to this book. Honestly, this hearing this from Michelle Obama made every swerve and telling even more poignant. She already had my respect, but it is now galvanized.

Not exactly what I came for, but overall ok

Non-christian here, but decided to read/listen to this book anyway. The reviews for it were wholly good and figured it might be helpful in dealing with my personal feelings of loss and grief. Instead, it's more a discussion about God and the nature of God. Overall, I liked this book, it's not for everyone and I don't believe only followers of Abrahamic religions should read this. If you are coming here to look for healing, you will have to wade through some rather "preachy" moments to get to some great concepts. Personally, the Holy Trinity is not where I find healing, but if you do, then you'll probably love this book.

Overall, loved the book

I enjoyed the read. I was expected Michelle Yoeh as Eleanor and I knew better to expect that. The end was a little anti-climactic, but that is ok, I enjoyed the journey.

I found it enlightening.

The book is very well written and performed. It was also rather educational in the terms of the experience and perspective of the non-American Black in America. Sometimes a "outsider" point of view is needed to look at oneself and see the bullsh*t that gets cultivated here. Another book that everyone in America should read, as it helps bring to light the sheltered singularity of the American lifestyle. The deep vein of pessimism was distressing, but like any growth experience, it takes a bit of pain to understand a new perspective.

Great read and story...THEN

Loved the book, and Wil Wheaton as the narrator, GREAT IDEA!! Loved that!!!

However, and it may be quibbly of me, but the exaggerated/emphasis he puts on "THEN" at the beginning of the sentence got a little distracting. It could just be Ernest Cline's style but I only noticed in the second half of the book. I'm still giving the book top marks. Then, I'm going to buy the hardback copy for a friend.
