Greatly Enjoyed
Revisado: 02-25-24
Narrator is excellent. E.M.F.’s dialogue never disappoints. Short novella, definitely worth the time. Made into a movie as well.

Historia
Indoors are servants, meals, and furniture. There, too, is The Man of Wrath, her upright Teutonic husband, inspiring in Elizabeth a mixture of irritation, affection, and irreverence. But outside she can escape domestic routine, read favorite books, play with her three babies and garden to her heart's content. Through Elizabeth's eyes we watch the seasons, from May's "oasis of bird-cherries and greenery" to the time when "snow carpets her Pomeranian wilderness".

A surprising delight!
Revisado: 05-19-23
The driest, most delicious humor. On a par with Jane Austen for supremely polite wickedness and unerring, honest portrayals of human nature (inward thoughts and outward behavior). An instant favorite. Elizabeth Von Arnim is vastly underrated in the pantheon of British literature.

Historia
Dombey and Son is vintage Dickens and explores the classic themes of betrayal, cruelty and deceit. Dombey's dysfunctional relationships are painted against a backdrop of social unrest in industrialized London, which is populated by a host of fascinating and memorable secondary characters. The complete and unabridged novel is brought spectacularly to life by veteran reader David Timson.

Disappointed
Revisado: 04-09-22
Love all things Nancy Mitford, but saddened by this book, which had an interesting premise in the blurb, but failed to deliver. It’s a very flimsy modern day teen romance with GenZ dialogue and a few forays into the Nancy Mitford history in an attempt to give it substance. If you are over the age of 25, give this a pass.

Historia
Young Jody lives with his ma and pa on a farm in backwoods Florida. Life is hard there: cutting wood, planting fields, hauling water from a distant sinkhole. It is dangerous: wolves and bears roam the night. It’s also lonely for a young boy. One spring day, Jody’s pa kills a deer for meat. When Jody sees her spotted fawn in the brush, he convinces his father they should bring the fawn home. Thus begins a year when deer and boy are never far from each other. But the day will come when Jody must make a terrible choice between his beloved pet and his family’s survival.

Surprised and Delighted
Revisado: 03-09-20
Honestly, I only listened to this book because it’s considered a classic, and I try to familiarize myself with works commonly praised to continue my education. It didn’t seem like a book I would care for by type. I was wrong. I enjoyed every word. The reader’s ability with Northern Florida country accents is brilliant. Loved and highly recommend.

Historia
The intensely personal David Copperfield (widely regarded to be the most autobiographical of the author’s novels) is one of Dickens’ greatest works. We follow David Copperfield from birth and miserable childhood to inevitable tragedies, until he finally finds happiness later in life. Full of some of the most memorable characters in literary history. Nicholas Boulton’s depiction of the oily Uriah Heep and David Copperfield’s sinister stepfather, Murdstone, do the novel full justice.

Now a favorite
Revisado: 03-09-20
The fabulous reader of this audiobook presented the story and these characters in such an irresistible way, that David Copperfield immediately became a “top ten ever” favorite book for me. His voices and accents are so varied and true that the listener can immediately identify who is speaking without being told. Truly wonderful. Highly recommend
