Historia
On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.

Goodbye 2 Soon
Revisado: 03-25-18
Great read although the ending was a little predictable. However, the means to the end was far from predictable which is what made it a good read. The only thing I disliked was when the male narrator voiced the female character but that does not invalidate the story itself. I was sad to say goodbye to the characters once the story concluded.

This is a mini-sequel to The Other Son, a little gift for all those listeners who have been begging to know what happens next. Alice has been lying to herself for years, holding fast to the belief that the needs of her family far outweigh her own. But her outwardly successful marriage hides dark secrets, and for much of her life, the children were the only reason she stuck around.

No Time For Fears
Revisado: 09-22-16
I was afraid to read this book fearing I'd cry the entire time. JoJo spun a fantastic tale that touched every emotion and fairly showed depicted every side of assisted suicide. Everyone should read this book and take heed if it's very well given message.

Historia
Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) was one of the most influential African-American leaders of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born a slave in Hale's Ford, Virginia, Washington moved to West Virginia after the Civil War, where he learned to read while working in a coal mine. After several years of part-time schooling, he enrolled full-time at the Hampton Institute, a secondary school for African Americans, and graduated in 1875.

Not So Personal
Revisado: 03-01-16
This autobiography was more "technical" than personal but still interesting. It covered Washington's involvement in the development of Tuskegee University in great detail.
The narration left a lot to be desired. It was torture for me from the beginning to finish this book but it is what it is. I think the narrator could have been cast more appropriately.

Historia
Frederick Douglass was born a slave, and it seemed likely that he would live and die a slave since he was uncertain of his date of birth or the identity of his father. But young Douglass promised himself a different future - he would teach himself to read and write, and one day he would be free from slavery. When he was sent to work as a field hand on a plantation in St. Michael's in 1832, his life was so dispiriting and exhausting that he nearly forgot his dreams of freedom.

Inspiration for the Ages
Revisado: 02-10-16
What an amazing book. I learned more from this narrative about Frederick Douglass than from any other source in the past. His writing is so eloquent and a sad reminder of how little things have changed in our society on different levels. This book will forever be relevant. The narrator does an excellent job of capturing what I perceive to be the essence and spirit of Mr. Douglass.

Take a Journey
Revisado: 02-02-16
This book had me hooked from the first chapter it is very well written with descriptions that bring each page to life. The narrator does an excellent job of voicing the characters and expressing emotions. I cried laughed and held my breath in anticipation throughout the book as it took me through a journey I could never have imagined on my own. The end of the book will leave you wanting more.
