Superlative Micheal Connolly, brilliantly plotted and utterly compelling. Connelly keeps getting better with every book.

I am a huge fan of the Department Q novels and on the whole I loved this stand alone book from Jussi Adler-Olsen. The ambition and scope of this book are huge; dealing with some broad issues about the threat to the independence of the American people during a crisis. However, in the middle of this grand story I felt it was let down by weak writing of the black and female characters. In my opinion the descriptions and dialogue slid dangerously into caricature on many occasions. However, that aside I rattled through this book and still enjoyed it tremendously. This would make an excellent Netflix, Prime TV series.

What does John Waters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

John Waters has a way of bringing his own words to life fantastically. And the book is a superb blend of the fantastic and real. The conceit of writing the best and worst followed by the truth is inspired and I wallowed in it all. I was transported (pun intended) into the warm, warped and witty mind of John Waters and it was a great trip.

Where does The Skies Belong to Us rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One the best real life stories I have listened to on Audible

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Skies Belong to Us?

Learning the sheer number of hijacking going on in a given week and the airlines stubborn refusal to push through more security at the gates

Any additional comments?

If, like me, hijacking in the 70s sits in the dim recesses of your memory and is represented by the line 'Take me to Cuba' then this book shows that the stupidity, misguided politics and naivety of the hijackers was more than matched by the stupidity of the airlines. Brendan Koerner's idea to use the Roger Holder and Cathy Kerkow narrative is a smart one and held my attention throughout. Highly recommended!

What made the experience of listening to Cabin Pressure the most enjoyable?

A buffoon, a Matriach, a know-it-all and a wannabee all collide in this fabulous BBC Radio series. Some of the best moments come from the verbal sparring between a pre-Sherlock Benedict Cumberbatch, as Martin, and Roger Allam's character Douglas (a Jedi of sarcasm). You will inadvertently laugh out loud in public so be warned.

Any additional comments?

I don't doubt you will be hooked when you listen to season one. On the up side you have three more season and a Christmas special to listen to so fill your boots.

What did you love best about The Gods of Guilt?

This is an excellent story, in my opinion the best Mickey Haller story so far. The pre-trial has plenty of twists and turns and the kind of detail Connelly does well but this story becomes truly gripping the court room. Highly recommended.

Would you consider the audio edition of Going to Sea in a Sieve to be better than the print version?

This is definitely better than the print version as hearing Danny Baker read it adds the full force of his personality to the book.

What other book might you compare Going to Sea in a Sieve to and why?

This is similar to 'Cider with Roadies' by Stuart Maconie. Not sure how either of these will play with a US audience as these are both UK-centric personalities but I would give both a go.

What about Danny Baker’s performance did you like?

I like the way he managed to evoke growing up in London without rose-tinted spectacles or a Vaseline covered lens. This is no misery memoir just a celebration of a time when there were few TV channels and journalists used typewriters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Mouth of a docker life of a rocker

Any additional comments?

Highlights include Danny Baker's recollections of working in One-Stop records and dealing with celebrities like Mark Bolan and Elton John and tales of owning the most intelligent dog in the world. Can't wait for the next volume

Being a big fan of the Fresh Air series (also available on Audible) and South Park I thought I would try this out. The interview is fast talking and offers a real insight into the way South Park is produced; along with the ethics (or lack thereof) of Matt and Trey.
This is in stark contrast to the Zadie Smith interview which is quiete, considered but entertaining.
All in all a must for South Park fans with Zadie Smith as a aural quaalude to bring you down after the frenetic pace of Matt & Trey.
