Historia
To earn his pardon and avoid becoming yet another necromancer statistic, Timmy has to work for the Council. From bandit uprisings to giant sea serpents and ogre invasions, Timmy and the others are there to save the day - sort of. When the dragon egg their resident pyromaniac stole hatches to reveal the world’s cuddliest harbinger of death, Timmy and the others are dragged into a pair of diabolically dangerous missions. Breaking out of one of the world’s most secure prisons was hard enough. Now, they have to break back in to rescue a vampire.

Wanted to like it more, language is so bad
Revisado: 08-28-23
Nice book and interesting characters, but the author shows no control of language. They need a friend, like a poet who has free time, who could go through and point out every single time they used a cliche. I am not kidding, I wanted to scream every time someones "brow furrowed." It got so repetitive and boring I could barely finish.

Problems
Revisado: 06-26-22
Overall this was probably my least favorite of all the Hank books. You know they are getting deep into a series when they bring out a baby. Not much moves forward with Thad Elon. But the humor was great and on point. I love the way each book is in the same place but a different world.
Hardest part of the book was the shift in person. One chapter is in first person Hank. Next is in third person omniscient. All those bits should have been edited out. You lose your Hank perspective and it gets really confusing. No other book in the series does this and it felt like this was just a bad draft that got a bit too far.

Slow and Overwritten
Revisado: 05-06-18
Not the usual quality of Christopher Moore. This is not a good mystery novel. It wanders around for the first half with no crime to solve.— there was no supernatural story either. The zaniness and creativity were not there. The main problem is that there is simply no fun.

Pandora's Lab takes us from opium's heyday as the pain reliever of choice to recognition of opioids as a major cause of death in the United States; from the rise of trans fats as the golden ingredient for tastier, cheaper food to the heart disease epidemic that followed; and from the cries to ban DDT for the sake of the environment to an epidemic-level rise in world malaria.

Nothing new all low hanging fruit
Revisado: 03-15-18
I was hoping that the book would offer some new insights. But even during the introduction I was able to guess every topic he alluded to.
And some sections were just poorly written. Offit has an ax to grind with supplements, that is good. But he doesn't listen to his own advice. For example, he cites a case where a dozen people were poisoned. As Offit says, "It's all about the data." That case was 20 years ago. It would be more interesting to compare the rates of herbal poisonings each year to other causes of death.
Certain aspects of the book scream for more attention. Why not devote a chapter to IQ testing rather than lobotomies? Or Freudian Psychiatry? The episiotomy and epidural? His targets well known and minimally controversial.

First published in 1922 and filled with evocative portraits of pre-World War I society, these eight stories from the creator of the Father Brown mysteries recount the adventures of Horne Fisher, a socialite who uses his immense knowledge and powerful deductive gifts to investigate crimes committed on the sprawling country estates of the aristocracy - crimes that must, alas, go largely unpunished due to the greater harm that justice would unleash.

Bland mysteries, the anti Jewish and anti Italian rants makes it an awful choice except for a discerning racist. I give the narrator two stars because he should have refused to read this garbage.

In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

Historia
In July 1890, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield and shot himself. Or did he? Why would an artist at the height of his creative powers attempt to take his life... and then walk a mile to a doctor's house for help? Who was the crooked little "color man" Vincent had claimed was stalking him across France? And why had the painter recently become deathly afraid of a certain shade of blue? These are just a few of the questions confronting Vincent's friends who vow to discover the truth of van Gogh's untimely death.

Not the best Moore
Revisado: 07-10-15
Moore is such an amazing writer on his own, I feel that A Dirty Job was a perfect work of fiction. I dont know why he feels the need to jump into historical figures whom have well known personalities of their own. He does such a great job in his own universe.
The women in this story, including Blue, are literally hand puppets. And the story jumps all over the place. It gives details that do not need to be given, and then repeats them. Everything is revealed in flashback, there was no mystery
It is a good book, but by Moore's very high ability, not a great one.

Excellent fun for kids
Revisado: 08-18-14
Loved the book, was like watching at TV show with the amazing reading. Felt that some of the language was cliche and the analogies were well worn. IE "cut through them like paper." But this was not high art and, though predicatble, great fun. Stronger and more polished in the begining than toward the end.

Nice reading....for some reason some moron decided to put the sound of wind in the background. It is really unnerving to be in the middle of a chapter and have to hear all that garbage white noise. Couldnt get through any of it.
