Expected a better story and direction

Jiwa has a reputation for being an expert story teller, I'm afraid that wasn't evident in her book. I found the book a thematically repetitive compilation of "success stories" with little specific direction/advise. I say "success" because so many of the referenced successes are folks who've done very well by selling people not necessarily goods of intrinsic value but rather, as Jiwa says herself, things people are willing to pay for (thank you good marketing) and therefore 'worth' what they sell for. Sorry, just not my world.

Whether you're into the theory of evolution or not, birds or the science of attraction, you'll learn a great deal from Prum; and he'll keep you entertained. The only chapter I didn't care for was the one in which he makes an all-so-overworked, psychobabbly argument for the evolution of same-sex attraction.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this wine to enophiles; novices - seek enjoyment elsewhere

What does Bianca Bosker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Bosker does a great job of summarizing a Somm's (sommelier) experience while at the same time educating you about wine ... with one caveat. Her presentation is a bit (maybe more) narcissistic. By the end of the book, I get it, you're really great at what you do and you surpass most others ... I could have done with a less bold, 'fruit' forward, in your face, short-finish presentation.

Any additional comments?

She closes with a reflection on how fMRI (a computer image of what areas of your brain are working hard under different tasks). While her concluding statement is accurate, she's hyperbolic. (as someone familiar with brain imaging) If i took a ditch digger and put him/her in a fMRI and measured their reaction to shoveling shit vs. a control group ... the professional ditch digger would show greater activation of certain brain regions. The clinical significance of this, beyond they are, simply put, thinking 'harder' about it, could be meaningless. I really wish she ended the book in a different fashion.

Probably the last Dan Brown I'll 'read'

Any additional comments?

This book kept me entertained, sometimes thrilled. As with much of Brown, I love the travel diary-like pictures he paints (now I have a greater appreciation for Florence). But that's not what the books about. My 3rd DB, it feels formulaic. All of our characters have too many unrealistic close calls.

Any additional comments?

This book is loaded with interesting information (incl. facts) about Hillary Clinton. What's disappointing is how it lacks ANY objectivity. For such a tenured author, it is also contradictory many times, even within the same chapter (ex. Obama didn't let Clinton make any foreign policy decisions .... It was Clinton's foreign policy decisions that were so catastrophic, etc.) I learned a lot, but one must also presume that a book that relies 98% of the time on ONE anonymous source and is clearly intended to burn HRC (and btw, I don't care for her at all) is not necessarily truthful nor objective.

Any additional comments?

This story didn't work for me at all. The writing and character development are no better than what you'd expect from someone taking their first fiction/crime writing course. As someone who knows the LAPD intimately, I'm also confused by the various department-specific references, some of which are current to the story (consent decree) and others that are outdated (rovers vs Astros). But the main issue is the story and dialogue. Sorry

Would you be willing to try another one of Alan Munro’s performances?

ONLY if it's a physics book.

Any additional comments?

The good story gets lost in the monotone performance of the narrator.

The Truth About Caffeine Audiolibro Por Marina Kushner arte de portada

Any additional comments?

This book has lots of 'facts' about caffeine but has huge, unsurmountable flaws. The first of which is that it reads as merely a list of possible effects of caffeine without giving any weight to which are more likely/common or have a strong empirical foundation to those with little to no support in the literature. It is read in a pressured, monotone voice that makes the 'list' even more difficult to stomach (sorry).

Any additional comments?

I am certain this book will interest many ... a sisterhood of bees living their communal lives and one in particular, facing the a challenge that all but the Queen is permitted, motherhood. I found parts of the story interesting and then others over-told. Honestly, maybe it's my naivety but I expected to learn something more about bees. Just not my thing.
