Historia
Drawing on a wealth of untapped archival materials and the reports of generations of family members - mayors, judges, scholars, diplomats, and journalists - The Hundred Years' War on Palestine upends accepted interpretations of the conflict, which tend, at best, to describe a tragic clash between two peoples with claims to the same territory. Instead, Khalidi traces a hundred years of colonial war on the Palestinians, waged first by the Zionist movement and then Israel, but backed by Britain and the United States, the great powers of the age.

peace can be attained, but it won't be simple, easy, or immediate
Revisado: 09-20-24
Great historical information leading to the current state of affairs and ideas for how peace can be facilitated. Necessary reading for every person, regardless of religion or where one lives.

Historia
Derek Black grew up at the epicenter of white nationalism. His father founded Stormfront, the largest racist community on the Internet. His godfather, David Duke, was a KKK Grand Wizard. By the time Derek turned 19, he had become an elected politician with his own daily radio show - already regarded as the "the leading light" of the burgeoning white nationalist movement. "We can infiltrate," Derek once told a crowd of white nationalists. "We can take the country back." Then he went to college.

Absolutely necessary story to be told and heard.
Revisado: 02-17-23
I cannot emphasize enough how important this story is for all Americans and for all humans. It was incredibly uncomfortable to listen to "the great awakening" of the White Nationalist movement, especially from the inside perspective, and it was encouraging to listen to Derek's transformation as he became enlightened about the history and continuing negative impacts of white supremacist beliefs.
This story shows that compassion, patience, RESPECT, and open communication can result in positive change; that it's worth it (and necessary) to have ongoing discussions and healthy debates with people who have opposing views because people are not likely to become independently enlightened about opposite perspectives without these discussions and debates.

Historia
In Appetites, Caroline Knapp confronts Freud’s famous question, "What do women want?” and boldly reframes it, asking instead: How does a woman know, and then honor, what it is she wants in a culture bent on shaping, defining, and controlling her desires? Knapp, best-selling author of Drinking: A Love Story and Pack of Two: The Intricate Bond Between People and Dogs, has turned her brilliant eye towards how a woman’s appetite - for food, love, work, and pleasure - has become a battlefield.

Blunt reality, witty humor, and a romantic twist
Revisado: 07-02-17
Caroline Knapp simultaneously romanticized her addictions and provided insightful details about the underlying issues. Her story addresses both her personal and larger societal issues of women trying to fill an internal void. Her intelligent creativity was witty, blunt, and elegant.

For dog lovers and Caroline Knapp lovers alike
Revisado: 05-29-17
In true Caroline Knapp fashion this story is detailed and personal, painting vivid pictures that evoke emotion and resonate in my core. Hilary Swank was the perfect narrator - not only flawless in her performance, but exactly what I envisioned Caroline Knapp to sound like many years ago when I read (and re-read multiple times throughout the years) "Drinking: A Love Story".
