Historia
Contemptuous of their parents, who pass their days in a stupor of liquor, drugs, and sex, the children feel neglected and suffocated at the same time. When a destructive storm descends on the summer estate, the group's ringleaders - including Eve, who narrates the story - decide to run away, leading the younger ones on a dangerous foray into the apocalyptic chaos outside.

A Mixed Bag
Revisado: 10-09-21
This book has a really interesting concept and employs thought-provoking imagery and symbolism. However, there are so much fatphobic and ableist rhetoric infused throughout (i.e., main characters calling undesirable characters "fat" and "retarded") that it was difficult for me to like the characters I was supposed to like. There were so many characters that were dropped from the story without a trace and barely fleshed out, that it was very difficult to be invested in anyone.
That being said, there were beautiful moments in the book and profound axioms of wisdom, that it's going to stick with me. It changed the way I think about things. I just wish the author could have done it without perpetuating old, problematic prejudices that didn't seem to add anything to the storyline.

Historia
David Starr Jordan was a taxonomist, a man possessed with bringing order to the natural world. In time, he would be credited with discovering nearly a fifth of the fish known to humans in his day. When his specimen collections were demolished by lightning, by fire, and eventually by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, many might have given up, given in to despair. But Jordan? He surveyed the wreckage at his feet, found the first fish that he recognized, and confidently began to rebuild his collection. And this time, he introduced one clever innovation.

A Beautiful Marriage of Words and Perfornance
Revisado: 08-16-20
Redgrave + Didian = Something greater than the sum of its parts.
The subject matter might be difficult for some, but if you allow yourself into that place, you will emerge with a profound appreciation for those in your life that help give it meaning.
