Cats, Villains, Dolphins - what more could you ask for?
Revisado: 03-05-24
This was such a fun book to listen to. It was a great break from the serious political books I had just finished (Cheney and Alberta). The narrator is perfect for the incredulous situations the main character finds himself in. For cat lovers- you will love their role in the plot. Also, I may never look at dolphins the same again 😹😹.

Historia
Best-selling author Brian D. McLaren followed his love of nature (specifically, tortoises) all the way to the Galapagos Islands. There, he paid close attention to the flora and fauna around him but also to what was happening within him, how the natural world awakened his soul in a way that organized religion could not. McLaren's descriptions of birds, reptiles, fish, and flowers sing; he walks in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and grieves that Darwin has been demonized by his fellow Christians; and he reflects on how his own faith has evolved in the years since he left the pastorate.

Beautiful insightful journey
Revisado: 12-08-23
I leave for the Galapagos in 14 days. I am so thankful I chose this book to listen to before my trip. I used to scuba like 30 years ago and the Galapagos was one of the dream trips I didn’t make. Now I am looking forward to once again visiting my friends of the underwater world and of course, making new friends. From this book I will bring an even deeper appreciation, understanding and love of the unique places in the Galapagos I am about to visit. If you love nature, the environment and its flora and fauna- listen to this book. You don’t have to be going to the Galapagos to love it.

Historia
Never having run for office before, Katie Porter charted a new path in 2018 when she was elected to Congress as a Democrat in historically conservative Orange County, California. Underestimated as a single mom and chided for her progressive values, Katie defied expectations. Then, using her signature whiteboard, she began to take CEOs and corrupt government officials to task in Congressional hearings. The videos went viral, introducing Americans to her no-bullshit style, and making her a coveted guest on cable news and late-night television.

Katie in Her Own Words
Revisado: 05-16-23
Loved this! I thought I knew a lot about Katie and the workings ( or lack of) in Congress. I really got some new insights. Katie is no BS about her jobs ( mom and representative). Hardworking doesn’t even scratch the surface. Every representative should read/listen to her book to understand how teaching is integral and necessary to true representation of their constituents and what real work is. Katie for Senate 2024!

Historia
The question of how falling cats land on their feet has intrigued humans since at least the middle of the 19th century. In this playful and eye-opening history, physicist, and cat parent Gregory Gbur explores how attempts to understand the cat-righting reflex have provided crucial insights into puzzles in mathematics, geophysics, neuroscience, and human space exploration....

Who Knew?
Revisado: 08-18-21
Physics certainly is not my area of knowledge- in fact the last contact with physics as a subject was high school. This book was fascinating in its interweaving of sciences, inventions, and experiments that established fundamental principles in a variety of fields throughout history. The quite large role that cats’ ability to land on their feet in all of this was certainly surprising. After finishing, I still can’t explain a cat’s righting behavior, but I don’t care since it was fascinating to hear about others journeys to try to do so.

Along the way, he discusses the growing authoritarianism of Vladimir Putin, and his aggression toward Ukraine, with the foremost opposition leader in Russia.

Excellent insightful analysis
Revisado: 08-18-21
Ben has written a most personal and touching account of the young activists who are fighting autocracy around the world. He provides invaluable context from the past to help clarify the present and future. As depressing as the topic is, he manages to infuse hope that we, as Americans can be better.

Historia
I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Fun escape from the present
Revisado: 02-26-20
This book was the perfect antidote to the political books I have been reading. It is fast moving, hilarious and just predictable enough to be comforting. We all need to have heros to save the multi-verse right now. Also having a Bobo or two around wouldn’t hurt either.
