Historia
Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.

Great story/ narration, too many SFX
Revisado: 04-27-25
I was impressed to find out that the author was also the narator in this audiobook because he did such a great job. I definitely enjoyed the story and found it unique to other sci fi books. It can be hard to add humor without overdoing it, and it was so well-balanced in this book. I was also satisfied with the ending. My only complaint is I wish I could get a print version of this. I found all the background noise to be very distracting, and I am not one to usually get frustrated with audio production.
The entire book has background noise nonstop, there is a contant humming to indicate when they are on the space ship. There is background conversations and voices when they go to public spaces. Sound effects everywhere. Doors opening, sighing, coughing, etc. Even when a character vomits, there is an accompanying vomit sound effect. This felt more like a movie without picture, rather than an audiobook. I really liked the story but honestly not sure if I can listen to the next one.
I am clearly in the minority here, so if the desciption sounds interesting to you, give it a listen!

Historia
In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him. He took a nap, but he is awake once more.

Meh. Narrorators absolutely killed it. Story was boring and interactions were mostly cringe unless Harold was involved.

Read this book!
Revisado: 02-04-25
everyone should give this book a read. I was hesitant due to the authoritarian themes coupled with my overwhelm at the current world, however, I felt this book was really important to read at this point in time. it doesn't have any overly violent or disturbing scenes when considering the subject matter. this book has a satisfying and conclusive ending, but the author has hinted it could become a series! I felt like the plot and pacing were strong for the entire novel.
in the interview included in this, the author says this book was a thought experiment about what if success was measured by how well you can get along rather than by one upping each other, and I felt very refreshed and uplifted at the end of this book.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Odile vies for a coveted seat on the Conseil. If she earns the position, she’ll decide who may cross her town’s heavily guarded borders. To the east, the town is twenty years ahead in time. To the west, it’s twenty years behind. The towns repeat in an endless sequence across the wilderness. When Odile recognizes two visitors she wasn’t supposed to see, she realizes that the parents of her friend Edme have been escorted across the border from the future, on a mourning tour, to view their son while he’s still alive in Odile’s present.

Great Debut Novel!
Revisado: 02-01-25
no spoilers- This book really offers a lot. the concept is very unique but is presented in a way that feels realistic and accepted in this world. there is a good balance of information given with some questions and conclusions to be drawn by the reader. I did feel a lot of emotion and connection to the characters. the middle was a little hard to get through at times (not a complaint just rooting for the characters).
I seriously appreciate how good the ending is. there are so many books where the last 20% brings down the novel and gives me a slightly disappointed feeling at the end, which is not the case with this book. it's a risk to write such a unique story, so i felt impressed at how satisfied I was with how everything ties together. this book will also be interesting on a second listen! definitely looking forward to see what else this author releases.
I will say I did not love the performance. this book is already pretty serious, but the whispering an overall tone made it feel more drab than it needed to be, so I would consider getting a written version

Beloved Classic Brought to Life
Revisado: 03-29-21
Love this book and narration. Listening to this audio book gave me more depth than reading it alone had. The narration was fabulous, I loved to hear all the singing sections, which is one of the largest bonuses for audio book vs written. I also enjoyed hearing the correct pronunction of names and places. I purchased all the LOTR when I finished because they have the same narrator, who did such a great job. I'm glad I will have this classic novel in my library.

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Easy, Uplifting Listen
Revisado: 03-18-21
I enjoyed this book. I typically was a psychological thriller fan, however pandemic and life fatigue were making it difficult for me to listen to anything too stressful. I decided to give this book a try and it was so refreshing, and even gave me some lessons for my own life. The main character was neither perfect, nor completely stupid, honestly just a relatable woman. It had a satisfying ending, even if slightly predictable.
