Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.

Historia
James Joyce's Dubliners is a collection of short stories about the lives of the people of Dublin around the turn of the century. Each story describes a small but significant moment of crisis or revelation in the life of a particular Dubliner, sympathetically but always with stark honesty. Many of the characters are desperate to escape the confines of their humdrum lives, though those that have the opportunity to do so seem unable to take it.

Useless facts
Revisado: 07-02-15
What disappointed you about Now I Know More?
These are useless, irrelevant and unimportant bunch of facts, put together in a book. Maybe 2 or 3 things was of any importance, but clearly not worth to waste 7 hours of life
Has Now I Know More turned you off from other books in this genre?
most certainly. now i would want to know more about what is in the book, before buying anything. it is not even the cost, but the amount of time i spent to find out anything new or interesting. in the age of internet, none of this is irrelevant. a lot of citations of wikipedia, why not go direct and find out exactly what is of interest, instead of listening so many hours?
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Anthony Haden Salerno?
doesn't matter, it is more about the content.

Historia
Every day, we make decisions on topics ranging from personal investments to schools for our children to the meals we eat to the causes we champion. Unfortunately, we often choose poorly. The reason, the authors explain, is that, being human, we are all susceptible to various biases that can lead us to blunder. Our mistakes make us poorer and less healthy; we often make bad decisions involving education, personal finance, health care, mortgages and credit cards, the family, and even the planet itself.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
if it was more applicable for an individual
What do you think your next listen will be?
something i can use
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
it describes the issue quite quickly, the rest of it was general. especially, when it discusses very US specific issues, it is quite boring for an international reader...

The entry on each element reveals where it came from, what role it may have in the human body, the foods that contain it, how it was discovered, its role in human health, the uses and misuses to which it is put, and its environmental role.

more background
Revisado: 10-25-13
Would you try another book from John Emsley and/or Kevin Scollin?
maybe
What was most disappointing about John Emsley’s story?
it is an encyclopedic listing of elements. what would be more helpful is if some of the terms, such as radioactivity, atom numbers and weights, etc. e.g. more of chemistry was introduced in the beginning, which would make a lot of cryptic text easier to understand. nowadays, you can type the element into wikipedia and it actually gives even more info than this book. putting the info in a context would have made it more useful. more of a chemistry textbook for adults.
Which character – as performed by Kevin Scollin – was your favorite?
there is no character, it is a science book
