Historia
In the distant future, corporations have become sustainable communities with their own militaries, and corporate goals have essentially replaced political ideology. On a youthful, rebellious impulse, Lawrence joined the military of a corporation that he now recognizes to be ruthless and exploitative. His only hope for escape is to earn enough money to buy his place in a better corporation.

slow burn story, pays off in the end
Revisado: 05-21-22
I have learned to quite a few of the authors stories. I found fallen dragon to be in the more engaging end of the spectrum. you have to power through the first 1/3 of the book which is mostly set-up.

solid conclusion to story arc
Revisado: 02-28-22
this book was short but satisfying end to the story. I am very glad there wasn't a Hollywood style ending.
my only comment is to the narrator.
"anthropic principle" is what you meant to say
"anthropomorphic principle" is what you said and is not a thing.

interesting but hard to follow
Revisado: 05-25-21
I read some of the other reviews before picking this one up. I didn't believe that the book would be as difficult to follow as the other readers suggested.
the first third of the book is interesting and easy to follow. what gets complicated is when the author decides to start adding new characters with obscure names at random and expecting the reader to follow what is going on.
II can honestly say that I wanted to like this book but I kept zoning out for the last 10 to 14 hours of it. I think the conclusion was supposed to be heartwarming, but I honestly was just glad that this book was over and I could move on to something else.

Historia
The fate of humanity lies on the shoulders of Burt Radcliffe, the new head of NASA's Near Earth Object program. He's been rushing the completion of DefenseNet, a ring of satellites that are both part of an early-warning system, as well as the means to eliminate incoming threats. Yet Burt knows that despite the world's best efforts, nothing can be done about the alert he's just received. Coming out of deep space is a danger that's been approaching since the dawn of time. A black hole. An unstoppable threat that promises death for all in its wake.

great story
Revisado: 01-28-21
very well written story with a cast of likeable characters. Narration also exceeded expectations. normally I cringe when a man tries to do a female voice... much less one with a foreign accent. the male and female voice were all distinct, appropriate, and didn't break the immersion in the story.

pulled it off
Revisado: 12-07-20
I was dubious about the possibility of a sequel to such and iconic and clearly self contained story line ready player one.
The story of RPT was distinct enough from RPO to not fall into the rehashing trap that we all worried this book world turn out to be.
if you are looking for brand new sci-fi concepts, you came to the wrong place. if you want an interesting exploration of the transition point of a species from physical to purely virtual, you came to the right place.
solid story with characters that you are already invested in.
can't wait for the "quest for the *&$#slayer'" novella.
I also wouldn't say no to a wade-iverse trilogy.

It's fall 2007. A well-timed leak has revealed that the US government might have engaged in first contact. Cora Sabino is doing everything she can to avoid the whole mess, since the force driving the controversy is her whistleblower father. Even though Cora hasn't spoken to him in years, his celebrity has caught the attention of the press, the internet, the paparazzi, and the government - and with him in hiding, that attention is on her. She neither knows nor cares whether her father's leaks are a hoax and wants nothing to do with him.

novel approach to first connect
Revisado: 09-24-20
overall I liked the story. the narrator made the female lead character sound like she was whining constantly which made it a bit difficult to listen to.
it is more a story about galactic sociology than any kind of typical hard SciFi. my initial inclination was to judge it against other first contact stories, but that would be unfair. the action and science are secondary to the interpersonal relationships.
long intimate discussions about alien emotions are not really my thing, but the author did a fine job writing the story that she set out to write.
definitely worth a listen... if nothing else, it's nice to get some variety from the typical dialogue about fancy future tech and ballistic trajectories.

Historia
Dr. Neil Anson Clemons was born at the very moment that men first landed on the moon and always strived to become an astronaut and reach the stars. Neil devoted his life to staying physically fit as any astronaut should be through martial arts and mentally fit by studying and becoming one of the world's foremost experts in quantum physics and gravitational theory. Now he and his team have achieved a breakthrough, both in building a warp drive, and finding a new energy source powerful enough to make the drive more than an interesting theoretical concept.

good story, unbalanced pacing
Revisado: 02-13-20
SPOILER ALERT the plot elements were all there and well thought out. I would suggest that this should have been 3 separate books. the first book being the proof of concept through the Florida fight. the second being the secret war. and the third being the moon base and exploration. it feels like the later two sections were very rushed.
otherwise, I liked the story and enjoyed the human elements mixed with the science.
my on nit pick is the ridiculous things that are said about physicians on behalf of physicists. as a physician who studied theoretical physics at the graduate level, I can assure you that it is uninformed at best.

Particle physics was always an unlikely path to the stars, but with the discovery that space could be compressed, the entire galaxy had come within reach. The technology was astonishing, yet nothing compared to what humans encountered 4,000 light-years from home. Now, with an invitation from a mysterious gatekeeper, the people of Earth must decide if they're ready to participate in the galactic conversation.

overall I enjoyed the story. as a physicist I found it a little hard to accept some of the more outlandish claims, but that doesn't take away from the story... it is science fiction after all. I went in wanting to be entertained and I want disappointed.

Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I'd been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive. Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others.... I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we're looking for the others - including John. But so are they....

great story, cringe worthy female narrator
Revisado: 06-20-18
I read the first two books when they first came out. I forgot about the series until I saw this on audible. The story is even better than the first two. great to see the group coming together.
my only issue is that the female narrator who does the girls sounds cringe worthy when doing the child voice and outright racist doing the Indian male voice. I give her 1 star... everything else is 5 stars.
