Historia
As the sun rises over a picturesque Cornish beach, Detective Lauren Pengelly makes a grim discovery while walking her border collies. A newly engaged couple lie dead in the sand. At first glance, it appears to be a tragic double suicide. But something doesn’t add up. The victims—popular university students Jasmine and Finley—seemed to have it all. But as Lauren digs deeper, she and her partner Matt Price unravel a complex web of secrets and lies. Finley’s gambling addiction was threatening to ruin everything, and Jasmine had an unwanted admirer.

The only Sally Rigby book I should not have purchased - Don’t do it
Revisado: 04-04-25
I have all of the Sally Rigby audiobooks. As expected, some are better than others. This, however, I knew was not going to be a great one within about the first 10 minutes. The instant conclusion that the victims on the beach were suicides/ murder suicide was a quick leap. To inform both parents that both of their children had committed suicide was ludicrous since the autopsy had not been performed. They to “regret to inform you that your child did not commit suicide “ seems a ridiculous statement. Why would suicide be better than murder. It was obvious from the first chapter who the guilty party was making a mockery of much of the book. There were also points when Matt and Lauren would desperately need to find someone and would drive around rather than calling to ask where they were. Using “Find My” apps would have been an option when talking to the parents- or should have been asked. There was also a point where they thought the killer was going to kill again and the second team waited for Matt and Lauren outside a house in their car rather than walk around the house to see if anything was happening. I found myself waiting for the next misstep rather than wanting to see what happened. Given all the books of her I have enjoyed, this was a true disappointment. Especially given the price and length of the book. Skip the purchase.

This is DC Smith's third investigation with the Diver and Diver Associates agency. They have been asked by a member of Norfolk's aristocracy to look into the tragic death of her younger brother, Freddie, the late Lord Thorpe of the title. The inquest verdict was of misadventure, but it isn't long before Smith begins to suspect there has been a serious miscarriage of justice.

Good plot

Story and narration were good and enjoyed characters. Definitely purchase. I have enjoyed all of the Smith novels and they are all interesting and have different plot lines. This holds true here as well.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 07-11-23
I love the interaction between Seb and Birdie. The story was great. I enjoyed that it was a good story with a good plot but that it didn’t have the darkness that often happens in police procedurals / detective novels.

Captivating listen
Revisado: 06-18-22
This was a wonderful book. I couldn’t stop listening- I had to look for things to do so I could keep going. The descriptions of the places Enzo went were well done and interesting. I ended up researching the sites and thinking how nice it would be to see them. I bought the next before I finish this. I highly recommend it!

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Beautiful
Revisado: 10-05-21
This is a wonderful story about hope and resilience. I was transported back to WW2 and was drawn into the characters feelings. The reading was well paced, soothing and well toned to the novel. I highly recommend it.
