What an engrossing guilty pleasure! The reader makes the book come alive; she's delightful. The story is imminently contemporary, and is rounded out beautifully by the well-developed characters and their humanity. I really, really enjoyed this story.

. . . but not the reading of it so much. I first read this in the 70's and it haunted me almost as much as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. it seems the Audible reader was trying to make it more dramatic, but it's not what this story needs. Graeme Malcolm would have been the perfect reader for The Exile Waiting..

What made the experience of listening to Work, Sex, and Money the most enjoyable?

Anything read by Graeme Malcolm goes down easily, but the subject matter is also good.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Work, Sex, and Money?

How sensible and applicable the advise is.

What does Graeme Malcolm bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He has a gift for making a book sound the way it's supposed to, even if I don't know what that is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. In fact, I've listened to it 3 times now.

What did you love best about Titan?

The way the author shows so much more of John D. Rockefeller's personality than one could have imagined.

What did you like best about this story?

The great detall; the even-handed treatment of the characters; the author's willingness to look for - and find - considerably more to write about than what has been written of the man before this book.

Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?

John D. Rockefeller.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. Iain Pears has a knack. His depth of knowledge about many things - here, the art world - seems to have no bottom. His character development is so adept that at one point I thought I smelled Flavia's perfume.

What does Geoffrey Howard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Geoffrey Howard is the perfect reader for these art history mysteries. He has exactly the right voice and diction.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Many chores were neglected.

What would have made The Legend in Green Velvet better?

Leaving out the peurile immature banter, and the not-believable scrapes; which would very nearly eliminate the book altogether. This is not the fault of the reader, clearly.

Has The Legend in Green Velvet turned you off from other books in this genre?

I'm not sure what genre this book is supposed to fit into, but if I knew, I would avoid all books in it.

Which character – as performed by Grace Conlin – was your favorite?

None.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Legend in Green Velvet?

All but the historic parts.

What did you love best about The Portrait?

It steadily improved and ended unexpectedly.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not at first. In fact, I intially intended to return it but accidentally left it playing while I was cooking and noticed it was pulling me in with the story.

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favorite?

The painter, of course.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not-so-quiet lives.

What did you love best about The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared?

The many, quirky characters and how they all came together to inadvertently create serendipitous events that fell into place around the ever optimistic protagonist as he made his way through the world.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared?

I cried with laughter when a member of the gang 'The Violins' (Violence, misspelled!) was caught vandalizing because police found his glove that he had accidentally thrown with a rock through a window. Inside the glove was the perpetrator's name and phone number. One of many very funny scenes.

What about Steven Crossley’s performance did you like?

His intonation was perfect and he had a knack for catching me off guard with some of the funniest parts, which of course made them all the more amusing.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't miss it.

Any additional comments?

This was just a delightful book, and not what I had expected. I immediately went in search of other books by Jonas Jonasson.
