What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Caveat: I'm giving up on this audiobook, even though I'm only about one-third thru it.

To raise my ratings, this is what's needed:
1. A plot that I was more drawn into.
2. A protagonist that I liked, even a little bit. Like some other reviewers, I found him irritating.
3. Less distraction from unbelievable plot points. Example: lawyer talks to stranger who claims he's with the FBI, without asking to see ID.
4. Less distraction from the fact that the author does not know Seattle at all. My mistake for expecting a realistic depiction I guess. Example: he speaks about "jumping off the Seattle bridge," but there's no bridge with that name in Seattle.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nick Pirog again?

Perhaps something outside the Thomas Prescott series.

How could the performance have been better?

To me, Barak amplified the aspects of Prescott's personality that I have grown tired of.

Would you listen to Hour of the Assassins again? Why?

Only if it were read by someone else.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Bel Davies’s performances?

If I were narrating a book that contained words in a language that I don't speak, I would ask for assistance from a native speaker. Mr. Davies so mangles most German names and words that if I didn't have the Kindle text to consult I wouldn't have known what he was attempting to say. It's bad enough that he continually mispronounces Mengele's name, but his rendering of Seestern, another key plot word, doesn't even sound German.

Davies takes his liberties with a few English and Spanish words as well. Very distracting.

Any additional comments?

One of my all time favorite audiobooks. Prof. Greenberg does a wonderful job of making history INTERESTING. Partly it's his way of making history into stories. Partly it's his clever asides. I loved the insights into composers that help me see them as real people, not just names attached to music. And Prof. G's historical stories filled vast empty spaces in my knowledge of 19th and 20th century (mostly European) powers and the senseless conflicts between those powers.

What three words best describe William Peter Blatty and Eliana Shaskan ’s performance?

Mr. Blatty reads well, but his dynamic range is too great. I was constantly replaying at a higher volume to hear parts I'd missed, only to be blasted a moment or two later when his volume kicked up. Ms. Shaskan's reading is great, no dynamic issues with her.

Any additional comments?

I read this book in one go back in the 70s. Once the story gets going, it's still a very good listen. I enjoyed the psychological discussions about possession.
