The Worst Stephen King has to offer!
The ONLY reason why I finished this book was because I rather liked the character "Holly". This time I wanted to shake her until her teeth rattled and almost quit listening numerous times.
The person who deserves my ire is Stephen King. I am heartbroken deep inside because I've read and collected his books since the late 70's. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER. Mr. King has gotten so pathetically liberal and anti-Trump that it's worth acknowledging! He has been absolutely rabid about President Trump on many occasions. Whatever you think of DJ Trump I think you have to be fair and say we were much better off and we WERE NOT AT WAR. The point is that King cannot help himself from putting down those of us who were skeptical of Dr. Fauci and an experimental drug injection. I got two "jabs" and six months later I had a stroke. Coincidence? Maybe.
So many of the precautions King uses in his story have been proven to have been of no use. The masks do not work. You can get and spread COVID regardless. The virus doesn't live on surfaces long at all. In fact, so much more harm was done to our Country by all the silly crap King believes helped that I don't know if we will recover. Certainly many of our children won't! It's funny because one of my friends acted like Holly and bleached everything.... wouldn't even bring packages inside for 24 hours. I know King is so rich that he can afford to lose constant readers such as myself. It's just a shame he's so willing to do so.

I had to mark it finished
Revisado: 11-28-22
This was the worst book I've ever tried, yes, tried to listen to on Audible . Ok, I do have sympathy for the premise of the book or I wouldn't have purchased it. However, I simply couldn't finish it. The narrator's voice is awful. It's mind numbing. Literally, she put me to sleep. This is a book that could have been reduced to a Novella. I am sorry about the ordeal she endured, but I got the point after a few chapters. Yes, the system is awful. Yes, I get her pain. Yes, she endured more than she should have had to endure. However, I gotta say it; don't drink yourself into unconsciousness repeatedly and expect not to find trouble. This behavior from what I gathered was not a first or second time occurrence. She should absolutely stay away from alcohol. I hope she decided to stop drinking but I'll never know. And, yes, I've been in similar circumstances. It's not a good idea to "party" around a bunch of drunk men when you can't handle yourself appropriately. It's not fair. It's not right. But, everyone who's been to College knows it. I'm sorry this incident happened to her. I'm sorry it basically ruined years of her life. It's just how it is, and rambling on and on about it is boring. There is no way I'd put myself through all that trauma. She just added insult to injury by pursuing it. That sounds awful I realize, but you get what you ask for. Maybe her book will help others but it just irritated me. What a waste of money and time!

Wonderful story!
Revisado: 09-19-22
This was a captivating read. I always enjoy novels that are based on true events. Not only are they enjoyable stories, I like the idea of actually learning about people and events that happened as a part of history. I had no idea that children were exploited so openly in modern day America! I plan to pursue the events in this book by listening or reading others on the subject. Actresses like Joan Crawford probably didn't care how they got their "perfect" babies. As is much of the case yesterday, today, and tomorrow, money and influence can buy just about anything. Even children.

Just Awful!
Revisado: 09-16-22
I'm glad of one thing: I didn't buy the actual book!
I started reading Stephen King in College. I'd say about 1979. The Stand. I still think it's among his best, including Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Talisman. This book was simply terrible! I almost couldn't get through it. There were many references back to The Gunslinger books (which I did like), as well as to Hearts in Atlantis. This "other worlds than these" theme is getting quite old, as if he's winding down his store of ideas and just filling up seemingly endless pages with nonsensical garbage! He's written this type story several times but this one is just bad. I think its an insult to Roland, a true Dark Prince, as well as to Jack Sawyer, a boy much richer and with far more depth, who truly battles for the Good. This dragged on and on. I simply could not "fall" into the World he struggled to create! The protagonist is likeable. The plot is just dumb. The fairy tale references back to childhood tales we know is tedious. The metamorphosis from Teenager to Dark Prince and back didn't captivate me nor did any of the characters residing in the other world. More like paper dolls than created personalities one can envision and want to know. I'd say Mr. King should retire. He's certainly wealthy enough, and while I do not begrudge him the money that I, constant reader, helped him make, I do begrudge him the selfish, mercenary pursuit of still more with a book he should have packed away into one of his boxes of rejected ideas and half finished tries. Obviously, I don't recommend it.

Well, I love these kinds of books so call me weird. The events in our lives that make us who we are, the choices found or lost, the workings of our minds....what makes a person evil? We all have bad thoughts, and sin, but what is it that makes a person truly evil? How does that evil affect not only his life, but theoretically countless lives? These serial killers fascinate me. I thought it was an excellent book for an east read.

Intriguing
Revisado: 01-23-22
Drew is a masterful story teller. I thought the narration was quite good. The plot is complicated and at times it dragged a bit. I didn't realize the ending until I heard it. I certainly was surprised. There was only one thing I couldn't work out....I don't want to spoil the story but it concerns the little girl and what happens to her.
I simply didn't get how that was accomplished.
Perhaps I just missed something. Anyway, it was a good book but be prepared for many twists and turns. The story exists on many levels. It's thought provoking and somehow heart wrenching. You have to pay attention and allow yourself to imagine reality and love; what it means to exist.

Revisado: 08-24-21
I haven't purchased a Stephen King novel for quite awhile. He's an outspoken leftist and his comments about politics strike me as appalling, especially since he's worth about 450 million dollars so it really doesn't matter to him who's in charge. He's a HAVE. I'm a HAVE NOT. I listened to this book and I did like it (aside from his snarky liberal prose...why is this necessary? It's a thriller for God's sake, not a commentary on Trump). The plot was intriguing, and I liked the story within the story. He brought in the usual references to his other books which was fine. For awhile I was afraid he'd go down the Rose Madder road ( SK fans will know) but he didn't quite do that. I found myself cheering Billy on and wanting him to prevail. I personally think if all *bad guys* were like Billy, things would be a damn sight better. You will have to decide what I mean by that because I won't spoil the story. Suffice it to say, it's a deeply personal story, a war story, and a love story. I do recommend it.

Terrifying!
Revisado: 12-21-20
I liked the story. It frightened me because I see similar trends in America today that are leading "we the people" further away from "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".
I do think the Author is a little superior about Canada vs. USA in her thinking. Never in a million years would I choose Canada over America! Sorry, Canadians!
It's a story worth listening to, but requires a certain amount of patience. Don't attempt it if you wish for definite conclusions and/or happy endings.
P.S. I wanted to smack the Professor who speaks at the end of the book! What a jerk!
