Buy as many lattes as you want. Spend extravagantly on the things you love. Live your rich life instead of tracking every last expense with Ramit Sethi’s simple, powerful, and effective six-week program for gaining control over your finances. This isn’t typical advice from a money expert. In this completely updated second edition, Ramit teaches you how to choose long-term investments and the right bank accounts. With his characteristic no-BS perspective, he shows how to squeeze every hidden benefit out of your credit cards.

Great basic information
Revisado: 07-02-24
If you are new to saving, living a frugal lifestyle or investing this is my top recommendation. Very simple plan and easy to follow. I disagree with a few small things regarding the reality of fiat money, but still highly recommended.

Peripheral Insight into Military AI
Revisado: 06-23-24
For beginners this book offers a good peripheral insight into what the American military is working on in terms of automation, productivity improvement and process streamlining. However, just as in Plato's Cave the general population is only seeing the shadows of the great work occuring in Government labs and especially the private sector. If this book is new information to you, it's already at least 5 years away from the bleeding edge.

Historia
Ancient writers observed that forests always recede as civilizations develop and grow. The great Roman poet Ovid wrote that before civilization began, “even the pine tree stood on its own very hills” but when civilization took over, “the mountain oak, the pine were felled.” This happened for a simple reason: trees have been the principal fuel and building material of every society over the millennia, from the time urban areas were settled until the middle of the nineteenth century. To this day trees still fulfill these roles for a good portion of the world’s population.

Amazing History
Revisado: 06-21-24
Highly recommended for anyone interested in the power sources and consequences of early civilizations. Though focused on Western Civilization the lessons are virtually universal and apply to nearly every civilization. A must read for anyone interested in ecology and historical development. We have simply moved on from wood to coal and now oil as the prize 🏆

Disorder: Hard Times in the 21st Century is a long history of this present political moment. It recounts three histories—one about geopolitics, one about the world economy, and one about western democracies—and explains how in the years of political disorder prior to the pandemic, the disruption in each became one big story. It shows how much of this turbulence originated in problems generated by fossil-fuel energies, and it explains why, as the green transition takes place, the longstanding predicaments energy invariably shapes will remain in place.

Good companion to "The Prize"
Revisado: 06-20-24
The chapters feel like strung together individual long essays. A lot of good information, historical background and the famous last chapter which discusses possible modern geopolitical tension. The history of energy is the history of civilization so I also recommend "A Forest Journey" for deeper insight into how energy and resource economics have shaped the modern world we live in.

Broken Money explores the history of money through the lens of technology. Politics can affect things temporarily and locally, but technology is what drives things forward globally and permanently. The book's goal is for the listener to walk away with a deep understanding of money and monetary history, both in terms of theoretical foundations and in terms of practical implications.

Great summary of monetary history.
Revisado: 06-19-24
Though I believe that the American Dollar is the Lapis Exilis Lynn gives an excellent history of fiat money, accounting and the search for a stable store of value throughout history. A good companion to this would be Grabber's "Debt: The First 5000 Years". Though Lynn does spend the last 1/3 of the book being a Bitcoin evangelist I believe that she is sincere in her horror of the warfare/welfare state. For an elite perspective about current macro economics from the view of the parasite class I would recommend "When Markets Speak".

Good but Biased
Revisado: 06-17-24
The author presents some very good information. However, he's an unrepentant spokesman for the hedge fund and private equity class that has hijacked Washington DC and decimated America's Main Street & manufacturing capacity for profit and social control. All the while his privileged 1% class has receiving unrestrained corporate welfare. I understand that he started out as a poor boy who worked his way to the top. However, his unrestrained worship of the financial power elite makes me think that he's an out of touch spokesman. Just like Dalio, he keeps on predicting that the system will "collapse" as though the people who run it are a bunch of NPCs. We'll find a way to keep on dancing because the alternative is global collapse. Human nature hasn't changed and with new productivity processes finally coming through the Deep State won't simply let America go into another Great Depression because of the "sanctity of markets". Money and markets are social constructs. You and your friends enjoyed the protection and bailouts going up. Now you want to kick out the ladder for the rest of us. Still recommended for valuable market insights and perspective on parasite class thinking.

Historia
Every investment plan under the sun is, at best, an informed speculation of what may happen in the future, based on a systematic extrapolation from the known past. Same as Ever reverses the process, inviting us to identify the many things that never, ever change. With his usual elan, Morgan Housel presents a master class on optimizing risk, seizing opportunity, and living your best life. Through a sequence of engaging stories and pithy examples, he shows how we can use our newfound grasp of the unchanging to see around corners.

Basically a book of common sense.
Revisado: 06-12-24
The book is short and sweet. Just. like his last book "The Psychology of Money" this is a book of common sense. It's a good refresher and reinforcer for those who have lost their way. These books are definitely a must read for people who didn't grow up in supportive environments or who's parents didn't pass down middle class values regarding money and planning.

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Rhodes looks back on five centuries of progress, through such influential figures as Queen Elizabeth I, King James I, Benjamin Franklin, Herman Melville, John D. Rockefeller, and Henry Ford.
