Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

If you’re on the fence just get it!
Revisado: 01-31-20
It’s been a long time since I enjoyed a book so thoroughly as this. I typically listen to about 1 to 2 novels a week. I really enjoy the fact that there were two different narrators one for the male voice and one for the female. The writing was superb and so was the narration.
There are many parts of the book where I wanted to pause and listen to a particular sentence again because it was just so well written and made me have an “oh wow” or “sigh” moment.
The first few chapters are a little bit slow so if you’re impatient just stick with it. I personally didn’t find any issue with this as I was drawn into the story right away, but if you’re looking for action to begin right away it doesn’t happen in this book. The author lets the story unwind at it’s own pace.
It’s part historical fiction novel part memoir & part folklore I guess you would say. I enjoyed it so much I finished it in two days. I love listening to audiobooks while I quilt.
I would recommend this for most adult audiences. there is no foul language, or sexual scenes. The book does deal with death quite a bit and deals with homicide as well.

Millions of years ago, a meteorite fell to earth and shattered, revealing a beautiful blue stone. One hundred thousand years ago, a girl named Tall One found the crystal on the African plain, and it formed her destiny - as well as the destiny of generations to come. From ancient Israel to Imperial Rome, medieval England to 15th-century Germany, the 18th-century Caribbean, and the 19th-century American West, the destiny of the stone and the history of the world unfold.

One of my all-time favorite books!
Revisado: 03-24-19
Although the first chapter or two might be a bit slow please hang in there. Once this book gets going you just can’t stop listening. I regionally read the print version of this year’s ago and was so excited to find the audio version. This audio version was done so well I enjoyed it more than the print version.
The book spans thousands of years and is like a bunch of mini books all wrapped into one. Each mini story contains so much drama, humor and excitement. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Great thriller with the twisty ending!
Revisado: 03-26-18
I don't usually listen to this type of book preferring historical fiction. I got this one since it had so many five star reviews and I wasn't disappointed!
The narration was exceptional and kept the book extremely enjoyable to listen to. She did a great job giving each character his or her own voice.
The author did a wonderful job at slowly letting the plot unwind to tease the listener with details at just the right pace, keeping the listener hanging on edge.
The book concluded with a great twist. I highly recommend it.
I just finished it and feel sad. I miss the main character already!

Historia
In an expensive London restaurant, Julia Lovat receives a gift that will change her life. It appears to be a book of exquisite 17th-century embroidery patterns - but on closer examination, Julia finds it also contains faint diary entries. In these, Cat Tregenna, an embroideress, tells how she and others were stolen out of a Cornish church in 1625 by Muslim pirates and taken on a brutal voyage to Morocco to be auctioned off as slaves.

A must read for every embroiderer!
Revisado: 08-15-17
This was such an enjoyable book. I really enjoy books that flash between the past and the present. This book switched between the 1600s and present day. It was a romance of sorts.
The narration was done by a man and a woman was expertly done. The story was well-crafted and moved quickly.
It is unusual to read stories about embroiderers. Being a hand embroiderer by trade I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to others.

I usually prefer historical fiction, so this wasn't the typical book for me.
I was blown away by this book. It was a real "page turner". The story gets going from the very first chapter and is exciting all the way through the book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone for a good listen.

Historia
When you listen to Lily and the Octopus, you will be taken on an unforgettable ride. The magic of this novel is in the listening, and we don't want to spoil it by giving away too many details. We can tell you that this is a story about that special someone: the one you trust, the one you can't live without. For Ted Flask, that someone special is his aging companion, Lily, who happens to be a dog.

I'm a Dachshund owner, but this book was awful
Revisado: 06-25-16
This is the story of a mentally unstable homosexual man who is obsessed with his dying 12-year-old wiener dog.
Although this story had it's funny and touching moments, due to the fact that the man was mentally unstable the story was hard to follow. It was hard to tell at times what was fantasy and what was reality.
This is the second time have purchased a book not realizing that the main character is gay. It would be nice to know this before purchasing as I find it uncomfortable to read about these types of relationships in detail and find it hard to relate to the characters.
I think the main idea of this book was a great one, however it was executed poorly.
Most of the time while reading this book I was just rolling my eyes and trying to figure out what was going on.

Difficult to follow...
Revisado: 02-02-16
This was a very difficult book to get through, luckily it is extremely short just a few hours long.
It is written all in a series of letters. That is the only narration the book provides.
The performance is good and they have several different people Reading the different letters. Despite this I found the story difficult to follow and it was hard keeping up with the different characters.

I'm not sure why this story got so many high reviews.
Story was just okay, the narration was done in a thick nasal southern accent which was awful.

In 2012, Emme Wilde can't find the right guy. She wants to feel that swept-off-your-feet dizziness of true love. But so far, her dating life has come up short. Star Trek geek? Nice but too serious. Cute but predictable
Revisado: 11-23-15
OK so it's not quite Claire and Jamie Fraser....
I like the performance. The narrator did a good job of switching between American and British accents.
The book was very silly and predictable and a lot of the dialogue made me roll my eyes. That being said, if you've just finished reading a heavy or intense novel and need something light pass the time then this is a good book.
There were not any explicit sex scenes, so I was able to listen to it with my children in the room which is always a plus.
