Historia
The vagus nerve allows our brains to receive information concerning many different bodily functions, and it can affect many different areas of the body, including one’s voice. This is one of the first symptoms of vagus nerve disorder. The nerve can affect us to the point of causing issues such as obesity, chronic health problems, and even mood disorders. Also, overthinking is irritating to the mind and can result in serious consequences to the well-being of an individual.

Historia
As a boy, James Rebanks's grandfather taught him to work the land the old way. Their family farm in England's Lake District hills was part of an ancient agricultural landscape: a patchwork of crops and meadows, of pastures grazed with livestock, and hedgerows teeming with wildlife. And yet, by the time James inherited the farm, it was barely recognizable. The men and women had vanished from the fields; the old stone barns had crumbled; the skies had emptied of birds and their wind-blown song.

Revisado: 01-01-24
I had to stop listening to this depressing story. I know the life of a farmer is hard and heartbreaking but it was a tale of nonstop sadness. A few moments of humor or bright spots would have relieved the misery. The ponderous delivery made it worse with its undertones of anger and despair. I hope for everyone sake that it gets better but I couldn’t stick around to see.

Read in a lovely Irish lilt, the author makes a compelling case for first conservation. By turns, hopeful and urgent, she weaves in anecdotes and personal accounts of her past and current experiences with nature. I will listen to it again and again.

Disappointed
Revisado: 11-21-19
I must have missed something. I had high hopes for this book after loving the first. If there was any humor, It was lost among the cynicism and sad resignation. The narrator’s tone reminded me of a pedantic priest’s Sunday sermon, slow and plodding. I only lasted until chapter 8 before giving up. .

Very inspiring
Revisado: 11-18-19
Interesting and inspiring with good information and idea. For the most part, Bear Heart gently shares his wisdom but at times it got a little preachy. Deep and measured, I think the voice of the narrator is a good messenger to spread Bear Heart’s words.

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

Mushrooms and more
Revisado: 04-15-19
We can count on Michael Pollen to be at the forefront of current trends. This time it’s psychedelics. The history of LSD is also fascinating - who knew that it was first developed for the U.S. military and it showed a lot of promise for treatment of depression, anxiety as well as several mental disorders. Then along came Timothy Leary...
It is a fascinating account of the many disparate groups who had a stake in the acceptance or rejection of a controversial substance. The history of LSD is fascinating - who knew that it was first developed for the U.S. military and it showed a lot of promise for treatment of depression, anxiety as well as several mental disorders. Then along came Timothy Leary...
It seemed overlong especially in the middle with lots of details and data in the middle. This might have a better book to read, to be able to skip over some parts but also to be able to refer back to some of the more interesting parts.
I enjoyed learning about mushrooms (not just the psilocybins). I had no idea that fear of mushrooms is cultural. France and indeed most of Europe, China, Japan are mushroom friendly while Great Britain and the U.S. are mostly fungi-phobic.
The report of the actual “trips” was factual and straight-forward, not shying away from the frightening experiences of some and stressing the value of a guided session with an experienced leader.
Highly recommended for the political and social background of psychedelics as well as the baggage that has been carried along from the 60’s.
