Historia
On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight.

I read this book awhile back. I enjoyed it more the second time around with the voices an background effect. The story itself was engaging and funny! The pacing was good and kept my interest I think I finished it in two sittings.

Historia
What if you can't afford nine-dollar tomatoes? That was the question award-winning journalist Tracie McMillan couldn't escape as she watched the debate about America's meals unfold, one that urges us to pay food's true cost-which is to say, pay more. So in 2009 McMillan embarked on a groundbreaking undercover journey to see what it takes to eat well in America. For nearly a year, she worked, ate, and lived alongside the working poor to examine how Americans eat when price matters.

A bit disappointing
Revisado: 01-06-14
I was browsing through audible and came across the “American Way of Eating” by Tracie McMillan and narrated by Hilary Huber. What caught my attention was this idea of why it is so difficult for so many Americans to eat well. In her book she describes how she takes on a series of unskilled jobs from farm to plate – laboring as a farmhand where she picked grapes, sorted garlic, onions and peaches and later cut garlic. Then she goes on to stock shelves at Wal-Mart and finally works as an expeditor at Applebee’s.
I am always interested in the invisible members of society and to that end I can say Hilary Huber does a wonderful job bringing this story to life. In the field there are some interesting stories about how people are living and what people are eating. Then after she leaves the fields we rather lose that perspective instead it mostly about take home pay and what she encounters at work.
Unfortunately the point of her book was supposed to be more about why it is so difficult for American’s to eat well. By the end of her book I could not really see the connection between the work she did and people’s food choices. I know what it is like to wake up and work in a crappy job all while trying to make ends meet. I know how hard it is to figure out how to pay for the basic necessities of life and while I have always chosen to buy whole food instead of fast or convenience food – her story made it seem like this is not an option.
I think I am disappointed in this book because I wanted more about social change, people making different conscious efforts to support a better food structure. I wanted more time in the fields to see how they did eat and more in depth stories about their health that kind of thing.
So for me the book missed its own mark. I think it was entertaining though just not sure if it is really all that informative.

I am going to skip the retelling of the story and straight for the performance. I loved the cast, the voices were perfect, I also read a long in my book and voices from the cast stayed in my head.
Very well done and honestly I think it made a great story even better.

Historia
Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

The lighter side of heartache
Revisado: 04-25-13
Lacey has been married to Mike for years and while her marriage was never passionate she thought it was stable. Then an order of flowers are sent to Lacey by mistake they are really for Mike's receptionist who is also Mike's mistress. Well Lacy is quite humiliated and she decides to get back by sending a mass e-mail to all of their friends, family and clients. Well one would think that people would sympathize with Lacey but they don't instead Lacey is forced to retreat to a lakeside cabin to lay low while things in town simmer down. At the lake house Lacey meets Monroe and ex-cop and crime novelist who likes isolation. Needless to say Monroe is not exactly happy to have a divorcee right next door who may or may not have a lot of drama.Meanwhile Lacey needs to figure out her life, what will she do for money? What does she like?
Normally I am not a fan of contemporary romance but I think Molly Harper is the greatest so I willing to take a chance. This book if very funny and Amanda Ronconi (narrator) just makes it all better. Lacey is a great character I like that she is for the most part rational but when she is irrational she really jumps off the deep end. This feels like a story that could actually happen. I also like the way that Mike was portrayed, he seemed like a man who just never thought about what he wanted and instead went along with everyone's expectations.
At first I thought it odd that she is entering a relationship with Monroe even if it is supposed to be casual but at the end it works.
Great story that is a lot of fun.

Historia
Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.

Love can be funny
Revisado: 03-20-13
Iris is the concierge to vampires in Half Moon Hallow this means she does all the things vampires cannot do in the day time, event planning. delivering blood, shipping packages, etc. On top of running her business she is the guardian to her sister and she is trying to manager her on/off again relationship with an ex boyfriend. Then one day Iris is in the middle of her very long to do list when she trips over Calix also known as Cal. Cal is a vampire, he has come to Half Moon Hallow to investigate a series of unprovoked vampire attacks on humans. The problem is Cal has been poisoned and needs to hide from everyone. The unwilling Iris agrees to host him for a week for a small fee. BUT Cal thinks humans are worthless and Iris thinks vampire are one step away from ripping her throat out. Iris and Cal have to figure out how to get beyond their issues.
We first meet Iris in Nice Girls Don't Bite Their Neighbors as she helps Jane get through her wedding nuptials. I really enjoyed this book it was lighthearted and funny. The writing is smooth all of the way through and the mystery who is behind the poisoning was good.
I listened to this book on audio, it was narrated by Amanda Ronconi and she is fantastic!
You do not need to read any of the other books in the Jane Jameson series nor the previous book in the Half Moon Hallow (Driving Mr. Dead)

Great lecture
Revisado: 12-31-12
I absolutely love Marianne Williamson's lectures. This one has four different parts: embracing change & handling fear, fear of success, spiritual solutions and love, moving out of fear and pain each segment is about an hour. The sound quality goes in and out and in some places I think it may skip a little. Having said that I love this one and I listen to it whenever I am feeling down or nervous.

Review
Revisado: 02-28-12
This audiobook gives details of the RJR Nabisco leveraged buyout. It is a decent read because it gives shape to the story of how greed and shortsightedness contributed to probably one of the most poorly done managed corporate takeover in history. I think the authors did a really good job of covering all aspects of this story, at times it brings home the meaning of fact can be stranger than fiction.
I am glad I got the abridged version because I bet the unabridged version was just full of details that I was not necessarily into. I must admit the reader kind of blew it for me. At times it felt like he was rushing to the end and at times it was to monotoned for me. Not to mention I could hear breathing gaps.

Interesting Take on Food Security
Revisado: 01-22-12
The story itself is well done and definitely give you something to think about. You may not agree with all or any of the authors conclusion but it does get one think about how food is produced and if this is sustainable. I did not think it was very scientific which works to the books advantage but also its disadvantage. It works because it is easy to listen to and gets you thinking. It does not work because I would like to know about some of his data sources for reliability. This is not to say I think he lied or even over exaggerated but I always like to understand the context of a claim.
The actual recording of this book was good EXCEPT for all the pauses. The reader would be in mid sentence and then you get a pause. Also between chapters the reader sounded different so for a moment I would think something happened in the down load. These issues do not take away from the book but it is sloppy editing and are rather annoying.
