Historia
In 1985, three Harvard archaeology graduate students travel to Peru for a backpacking trip to seek adventure, culture, and historic sites. While exploring undiscovered Incan ruins on the remote eastern frontier of the old empire, the friends witness an unspeakable crime. Their enchanting trip becomes a primal fight for survival. The three friends must come to terms with their experiences, and each student's recovery and healing process becomes intensely personal and continues for decades. This is a story of exploration, endurance, and the cruelty of lost love.

Book for those that hate males
Revisado: 07-19-24
Beyond absurd on many different levels. Written in a manner that belittles males as controlling and only caring about having a servant/slave for work and sex.

Historia
The real stories behind the scenery of America’s national parks. For 12 years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes. Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it.

Terrible breathless narration, good story

Good insight into the national park service, but the narration is terrible as if the reader was astounded about what she is reading in every sentence

Historia
Born in Massachusetts, Jared Bibler relocated to Iceland in 2004 only to find himself in the middle of an unprecedented financial crisis a handful of years later. Personally wiped out and seeking to uncover the truth about a collapse that brought the pastoral country to its knees, he became the lead investigator into some of the largest financial crimes in the world. This work helped Iceland to famously become the only country to jail its bank CEOs in the wake of the 2008 crisis.

Historia
In 1946, after five years as a prisoner - first as a Soviet POW in Nazi concentration camps, then as a deportee in the Arctic Gulag - 29-year-old Lev Mishchenko unexpectedly received a letter from Sveta, the sweetheart he had hardly dared hope was still alive. Amazingly, over the next eight years, the lovers managed to exchange more than 1,500 messages and even to smuggle Sveta herself into the camp for secret meetings. Their recently discovered correspondence is the only known real-time record of life in Stalin's Gulag.

Remarkable documentation of a terrible situation with extraordinary people and a brutal environment. Excellent insight into a dictatorship in which the people are mandated to believe in the system that is repressing them.

Historia
Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

Repetitious, reader's accent is dificult
Revisado: 04-29-16
Although much content is informative, the repetition to make a point is tiresome. The reader's accent was so strong that I had to concentrate too hard and could not not relax and enjoy the audiobook.

Historia
In 1917, the world was embroiled in a terrible war, the likes of which had never been seen nor imagined. Canada, still a dominion of Great Britain, was early in the fight and sent seven-and-a-half percent of its population to fight for King and Country, ultimately contributing a force of more than 600,000 soldiers, nurses and chaplains. In April of that year, the entire Canadian Expeditionary Force, fighting together for the first time, battled their way to the top of Vimy Ridge in northern France.

Historia
Santa Vittoria is a fictional town, still remote from the rest of war-torn Italy, where the citizens, led by their wine-loving mayor Bombolini, scheme and plot to prevent the Germans from locating and looting the town's only treasure - its fabulous wine cellars. The inspiration for a famous film, The Secret of Santa Vittoria is an enduring favorite.

Excellent book
Revisado: 11-25-06
This is a well written (and read) satire about the clash of cultures set in Italy during WW II. It is alternately hilarious and bitterly poignant. The reader is superb and I did not find the use of format 2 to be a significant distraction. I highly recommend this book.
