Historia
Bennett Driscoll is a Turner Prize-nominated artist who was once a rising star. Now, at age 55, his wife has left him, he hasn't sold a painting in two years, and his gallery wants to stop selling his work, claiming they'll have more value retrospectively...when he's dead. So, left with a large West London home and no income, he's forced to move into his artist's studio in the back garden and list his house on the popular vacation rental site, AirBed.

Didn't really have a definite plot. Was boring except for the reading by Julia Whelan. She's always good.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

A little too long
Revisado: 07-05-24
Narrator for Monique spoke too slowly (I had to speed up the narration to 1.2) and her rhythm was erratic instead of smooth. I really did not enjoy her way of talking at all - it really spoiled a lot of the book. It's a shame Julia Whelan wasn't one of the major narrators. She is far superior.
The book was too long. It really dragged and seemed repetitive in quite a few places. There wasn't any interesting conflict that would help to move the story or keep the interest of the listener. It seemed that the same thing was happening over and over.
I've enjoyed other books by this author, but I really wouldn't recommend this one. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either.

Historia
On September 11, 2001, Lisa Beamer was thrust into the national spotlight after her husband, Todd, became an American hero by preventing terrorist hijackers from almost certainly flying United Flight 93 into the White House or the United States Capitol. Instead, Todd led a group of passengers to resist the hijackers, forcing the plane to crash into a Pennsylvania field. Todd and the other heroes of Flight 93 gave their lives so that untold others would be spared. Nothing could be more heroic. Lisa is now telling that story, and much more.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 04-18-24
Too much background info - not particularly interesting, and way too long. However, the real issue was the narrator. She could read the words on the page, but her manner of speaking was too "caricature" - to me a "phony" type of reading - almost the way you would read to a child, not an adult. The narrator makes or breaks a book. This narrator definitely cracked it quite a bit. I'm sure there are people who enjoyed the narration, but I will never buy another book with her as the narrator.

Historia
The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here. Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

Revisado: 02-20-24
The story drags on and on. Female narrator's voice is not very expressive and becomes annoying after a while. She reads well, but does not convey the message. Her southern accent leaves much to be desired. Male voice is pretty good. Mostly, the story just drags, and the narrators cannot make up for a poor story line/plot. Definitely not one of Sparks better efforts.

Historia
It all begins on an ordinary fall morning, when Kelly Medina gets a call from her son’s pediatrician to confirm her upcoming "well-baby" appointment. It’s a cruel mistake; her son left for college a year ago, and Kelly’s never felt so alone. The receptionist quickly apologizes: There’s another mother in town named Kelly Medina, and she must have gotten their numbers switched. For days, Kelly can’t stop thinking about the woman who shares her name. Lives in her same town. Has a son she can still hold, and her whole life ahead of her. She can’t help looking for her.

Revisado: 12-21-23
As some of the other readers already said, the book moved very slowly. I felt like deleting it from my phone quite a few times, but I stuck it out. The last section was the only decent part. The narrator didn't really help the story. She read too slowly, so I adjusted the speed to 1.2. That helped. The narrator just didn't help to make the story interesting. She wasn't awful, but she definitely wasn't good. Narrators can make or break the book. I would like to listen to her read something else and then decide. I won't buy a book if I don't like the narrator, even if I love the author.

Graham Halstead cannot tell a story. I bought this book because of Julia Whelan - she's an incredible narrator. As of chapter 3, she was still not narrating and since the story line was not interesting, I gave up. I will not purchase another book by this author or Graham Halstead.

Story dragged
Revisado: 06-02-23
Narrator reads in a very choppy manner. It is distracting and takes away from the story. She also mis-pronounces several words, one of which was Nissan. Story drags - several times I thought the book was almost finished and it wasn't.
Just wasn't for me. I'm sure there are plenty of readers who enjoyed the book, but for me, the narrator makes or breaks the story.
