Historia
Deep is a voyage from the ocean's surface to its darkest trenches, the most mysterious places on Earth. Fascinated by the sport of freediving - in which competitors descend to great depths on a single breath - James Nestor embeds with a gang of oceangoing extreme athletes and renegade researchers. He finds whales that communicate with other whales hundreds of miles away, sharks that swim in unerringly straight lines through pitch-black waters, and other strange phenomena.

Fascinating and revealing
Revisado: 07-30-23
This fascinating book combines the physical human feat of free driving and the scientific advances of the deep oceans. Both aspects are insightful, interesting, and revealing and help to achieve the author’s goal to connect us with the nature of the oceans. Let us all be a part of the oceans and nature and not exploiters of them.

Revisado: 09-20-19
I did not find any new ideas here, but it was well-organized and interesting nonetheless. Most the ideas were versions of Covey’s “Seven Habits of Successful People” with additional tips regarding delegating, which, again, I’ve read elsewhere.

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Revisado: 07-30-19
I don’t know much about dinosaurs so this this short introduction was very informative for me. Now I want to learn more. I may even listen to this recording a second time, which I only very rarely do, since I want to comprehend this info as much as possible.

Historia
This is the dramatic story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. With the narrative power of fiction, this is a harrowing ride through the fire-filled skies over Berlin, Hanover, and Dresden. Fighting at twenty-five thousand feet in thin, freezing air no warriors had encountered before, bomber crews battled new kinds of assaults on body and mind. Air combat was deadly but intermittent: periods of inactivity and anxiety were followed by short bursts of fire and fear.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 10-03-16
I started this book thinking it would be only moderately interesting and I was not certain I would make through the entire 25 hours. However, it is a compelling account of the role of the air power in WWII and I learned a lot about the strengths and weaknesses of using this relatively new technology in war. I was amazed at the high casualty rate. I enjoyed the discussions on the ethics of the types of bombing used as well. Ultimately I not only listened to the entire 25 hours, but I was disappointed that the book had to end.

Historia
For professional cyclists, going faster and winning are, of course, closely related. Yet surprisingly, for many, a desire to go faster is much more important than a desire to win. Someone who wants to go faster will work at the details and take small steps rather than focusing on winning. Winning just happens when you do everything right - it's the doing everything right that's hard. And that's what fascinates and obsesses Michael Hutchinson.

Revisado: 08-12-16
I am a bit surprised how much I liked this book. He took what could be a dry topic and made it interesting and informative. And he did so with wit and wisdom. Just about any type of athlete will discover something valuable in this book, but cycling, running, and triathletes will find this read particularly worthwhile. The book is not about specific training plans, but instead provides higher-level insights about muscle types, genetics, aerodynamics, and training. Now that I have finished the book I have to get out of the chair and on the bike so I, too, can be faster.

On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Far from Grisham's best
Revisado: 10-24-15
I've listened to all of Grisham's books. I'm not certain I'll listen to the next one. The Rogue Lawyer is just an average book and not up to previous Grisham novels. It's not that it is bad, it's just not that good. It did not captivate me or surprise me with plot twists. It's passable, but far from Grisham's best.

Fantastic insights into a man and business
Revisado: 06-16-15
Although I previously admired what Musk has accomplished, I was not a huge fan boy of him. This book, however, provides insights into the man and his vision that makes me appreciate him more. His immense drive and work hours are astounding. This book has convinced me that it is his vision for the future that creates a personal mission -- and not money or power -- that fuels his passion.
I appreciate that the book does not gloss over the deficiencies of his personality. Musk would be a difficult person for whom to work.
This book also offers interesting information on running a business. Musk's maniacal pursuit of lowering cost and the application of the latest technologies to increase the economic value created are actions any business would be wise to consider.
Overall, this is an excellent book and very worth the investment in time and money. It is one of the best books I have read this year.
