Historia
Laurie is sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend: the man from the bus.

Revisado: 01-07-20
I am officially adding this to my list of very favorite books. I average 4 books/week, and have for over 50 years. My favorites list is short. This title is near the top. Well written, full of interesting turns. The characters are delightful.

Historia
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's stunning debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

On My List...
Revisado: 09-01-19
It is on my list of all time favorite books. I am a voracious reader. I can read 3-5 books a week, or listen to them. I do not listen to music in my car-I listen to Audible. So...when I say this is on my list of all time favorite books, that means it is in the top 25 of thousands of books read over 55+years.
I love this story. It lets us into a world that many of us didn't really know existed. I had read 'Farewell to Manzar' in elementary school, and was aware of the Internment camps. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet takes it out of the book of dry historical facts and adds a human component. Historical fiction is one of my favorite ways to learn history. Henry and Keiko's world becomes very real. An excellent story, and an excellent reminder that history happens to real people.
Well narrated, an overall great listen!

Historia
For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history. Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. This is her most personal memoir yet.

Hilary's Side of the Story
Revisado: 09-01-19
I am not a strong Hilary fan. I have admired much she has done, but I have also had many questions. I enjoyed listening to her tell us her part of the election. I have never doubted that she should be the President. I would recommend this book as a good way to learn about Hilary Clinton from her own words.

Historia
"How did you get this number?" Those were the first words Jill Biden spoke to US senator Joe Biden when he called her out of the blue to ask her on a date. Growing up, Jill had wanted two things: a marriage like her parents' - strong, loving, and full of laughter - and a career. An early heartbreak had left her uncertain about love until she met Joe. But as they grew closer, Jill faced difficult questions: How would politics shape her family and professional life? And was she ready to become a mother to Joe's two young sons?

Historia
Not long after Isabel "Izzy" Chambers opens up a knitting shop in the sleepy fishing town of Sea Harbor, Massachusetts, a diverse group of women begins congregating each week to form the Seaside Knitters. Izzy raises some eyebrows when she rents the apartment above her shop to Angie Archer, whose reputation for loose behavior and a quick temper has made her unpopular with many locals. But could any of them have wanted her dead? Angie's body is discovered drowned in the harbor, her long red hair tangled like seaweed in a lobster trap.

Historia
The 1968 US presidential election was the young Lawrence O'Donnell's political awakening, and in the decades since it has remained one of his abiding fascinations. For years he has deployed one of America's shrewdest political minds to understanding its dynamics, not just because it is fascinating in itself but because in it is contained the essence of what makes America different and how we got to where we are now.

An Adult View
Revisado: 03-31-19
I was 13 during the 1968 campaign. I vividly remember the loss of Dr. King, and RFK. I was too young to totally understand, but old enough to be aware. I remember my heart breaking for the children that lost their fathers. I also remember that my mother supported Gene McCarthy and my father supported Richard Nixon. They never argued about it, but they joked that they always canceled each others votes out. Now that same father does not vote Republican. This book was excellent. I have great respect for Lawrence O'Donnell. This book added to my respect. I really appreciated the review of that political election. I can see how critical the 1968 election was. We are where we are because of that election. Well written, and an excellent listen. I particularly enjoy it when I listen to a non fiction book narrated by the author.

Historia
Born into a political dynasty, Jenna and Barbara Bush grew up in the public eye. As small children, they watched their grandfather become president; just 12 years later they stood by their father's side when he took the same oath. They spent their college years being trailed by the Secret Service and chased by the paparazzi, with every teenage mistake making national headlines. But the tabloids didn't tell the whole story of these two young women forging their own identities under extraordinary circumstances.

Getting to know them
Revisado: 03-31-19
I listened to 'Becoming' by Michelle Obama before I listened to 'Sisters First'. I realized, listening to Becoming, that listening to a memoir is so much more personal that reading it. I loved both girls, and I was reminded how many things we share as human beings, even if we don't share political ideas. I loved the girls, and their parents, their grandparents. Again, I felt like I was siting down, sharing a coffee and talking with these beautiful ladies.

Delightful
Revisado: 03-31-19
I was totally enthralled by Michelle Obama's book. She lets us get to know her a wonderful, loving woman. She doesn't use the memoir to justify anything. I felt like I had shared a coffee break with her. I talked to her as I listened. Sharing the events that we, as mothers, share. Talking about her growing up, my growing up. In this memoir I found a friend. I loved listening to it vs. listening to it. That made it so much more personal.
