Historia
Michael is coming undone. Adrift after his wife's departure, he has begun taking himself on long, solitary walks across the English countryside. Becoming ever more reclusive, he’ll do anything to avoid his empty house. Marnie, on the other hand, is stuck. Hiding alone in her London flat, she avoids old friends and any reminders of her rotten, selfish ex-husband. Curled up with a good book, she’s battling the long afternoons of a life that feels like it’s passing her by.

The likable characters
Revisado: 02-26-25
This book felt like I was hiking behind two people who were nice, funny, and having interesting conversations. It didn’t get boring even once. I was glad to hear in the epilogue that the author really had covered this ground himself. As someone who has declared “I will never voluntarily walk uphill again” my hat’s off to him!

Historia
No electricity, no family, no connection to the outside world. For eight years, Cooper and his young daughter, Finch, have lived in isolation in a remote cabin in the northern Appalachian woods. And that's exactly the way Cooper wants it, because he's got a lot to hide. Finch has been raised on the books filling the cabin’s shelves and the beautiful but brutal code of life in the wilderness. But she’s starting to push back against the sheltered life Cooper has created for her - and he’s still haunted by the painful truth of what it took to get them there.

Almost didn’t finish.
Revisado: 12-08-24
I was just about to skip to the end to find out what happened so I could get it over with but it suddenly got interesting about the last third of the book. The first 2/3rds were lovely but I never really looked forward to getting back to it when I drove or took walks. I’m not sure if I liked it or not. I didn’t like the way the ending played out. But I loved that little girl-she was the best part of the story. Narrator was excellent.

I miss Ellie.
Revisado: 10-08-24
The new narrator did a great job, but she didn’t have the same depth as the previous narrator and I didn’t feel like the story was about the same Ellie. I gave up on trying to get used to her and just accepted that the Ellie I liked so much just wasn’t quite there. I really disliked her voice for Gavin. And for the love of god, somebody take that poor little boy to a hearing specialist and a therapist before he grows up to be a serial killer.

Revisado: 07-29-24
I liked the book enough to get the next one in the series but the grammatical errors were a turn off for me. Makes me wonder how the author achieved this level of writing and never learned about fairly simple grammar rules. Other than that the story was good and the narration was excellent.

Soooooo depressing.
Revisado: 07-02-24
Ms Quinlan is always a wonderful writer, but I just wasn’t in a state of mind to enjoy this book. I skipped past a lot because I just couldn’t take it anymore. The narrator is also very talented but I thought her voice was too old for the main character. I just couldn’t get the image of a skinny, tank-top wearing, chain smoking 45 year old out of my head.

Historia
With their Safe Zone overrun by the undead, taking refuge in the mountains seems like the safest bet for Rose, Tom, and the other survivors. There's one catch, however—between last spring's human exodus and a neighboring group's stockpiles, there's no food left to scavenge. They know to be wary of people and zombies, but a new adversary proves itself just as relentless—hunger. Supplies are slim in the wilderness, and living off the land is easier said than done. As winter sets in, and their food dwindles to nothing, they discover how far they'll go to save the ones they love.

A bit too relationship-y
Revisado: 04-23-24
This is the 2nd series of hers I read and it seemed a bit more for younger people than the the Until the End of the World series. Her zombie battle scenes are so exciting but I got weary of all the love misunderstandings and longing looks which took up too much of the story I think. Definitely zombie chick-lit. Which I still enjoyed even though I fast-forwarded some of those parts and didn’t care who did and who didn’t end up together.

Historia
Rose Winter has enough problems. With a marriage going down the tubes and a dreaded anniversary party on the horizon, the last thing she needs is the zombie apocalypse. She wanted to get drunk and sing karaoke, not murder her undead neighbors. It’s clear the party’s over, however, now Rose has more problems - a missing husband, an overbearing houseguest, and keeping her family alive.

These series by Fleming are the most believable I’ve ever read in this genre. Character development and narration are excellent. Made me want to go buy a manual water filter and some solar powered anything.

Pretty good I guess
Revisado: 10-23-23
This book kept my interest but reminded me of why I never got into Agatha Christie books: every character in the book does stuff that makes you sure they are the culprit except the actual culprit. You don’t get any clues about the culprit until the very end when all is explained. Just makes me feel like I’ve been unfairly tricked.

Fascinating
Revisado: 10-22-23
Good narration, but I increased the narration speed to 1.2 and that was perfect for me. Very intense and amazing true story from the perspective of a catholic teenager and her little sister, both tough as nails and with more character, determination and courage than most people would have, hiding Jews from certain death and risking their own lives in the process. It’s hard to imagine living with that level of unrelenting anxiety and fear every day for years. I’m inspired to do more research on the main character and find some of the interviews with them online.

Historia
Dr. Richard Buckley returns home to his wife and beloved hometown of Dunderrig, weary and heart-sick over the horror and pointlessness of The Great War. Soon, trouble is coming from all sides—Richard’s unhappy wife leaves Dunderrig, and a Nazi occupied Europe marches steadily closer to home. In the blink of an eye, the peace he’d craved and enjoyed since his days on the battlefield are gone. Meantime, James and Juliet come of age in a world on the brink of chaos, where the remnants of rebellion at home have snowballed into the horrors of yet another world war.

I have never listened to any of her books that didn’t keep me engaged up to the very end. There were a few slow parts in the beginning but after that I listened every chance I got. It bugs me that my library doesn’t carry any of her books.
