I love Jason Miller's books for the most part. As for this one... it's a decent read if you're new to his work I suppose. My issue with this particular book is that I've heard / read all of this information in his other works. Specifically, if you've read "The Sorcerer's Secrets", you read 90% of this already, the other 10% being mostly information about various retirement strategies. Miller is great, and I highly recommend his work, especially if you're new to it. For me though, I felt like I had already read this book twice.

I tried, but stopped enjoying this book halfway through. The premise of practicing your instrument free of stress and with minimal effort does have it's merit, but that could have easily been summed up in one chapter.

ENTIRELY too much woo woo meditation and positive affirmation filler for my taste. "Get calm and tell yourself that you're a master over and over" bleh

He did... "you can link to your Myspace page"... which made me instantly stop the recording and confirm that the title had "2019 Money Making Strategies" in it. Trust me though, it gets much worse.

If you have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of Facebook, you may find value here. I don't know who this book's target audience is supposed to be... Boomers that are trying to get "hip to the times" maybe? It literally starts as a guide to creating the various styles of Facebook accounts (which is less than difficult, and very user-friendly anyway), and then the author spins off into "advice" on content posting. Make no mistake though... the "advice" is as generic as possible, and loaded with ridiculous analogies that come off more like word-filler to eat up time than anything resembling "useful information". I somehow feel dumber for forcing myself to listen as long as I could before shutting it off and writing this.

Seriously though, who was this written for?!?!?

I don't know where to begin. My initial impression was to be apprehensive due to the author reading it himself, which can be a precursor to poor quality in my experience. Also, as an American, his Canadian accent threw me off for a moment... a moment of ridiculous immaturity that I'm now slightly embarrassed to type out loud, so to speak. From the prologue, to the very last sentence of the book, I was completely engaged with the author, and my first listen flew by. Jordan is a no nonsense, no fluff, no illusions, no "tricking yourself into being happy" powerhouse. His no-bulls^^t approach to the true nature of this world, societal structure, religion, how we fit in to all of that, and how we respond to the realities surrounding us (which coincidentally will occur with or without us there to witness it) is a rare, virtuous approach to life in this modern age of malignant, PC cancer that infects most minds before they blossom into one as grounded as Peterson's. He has accepted the world for exactly what it is, and has gone to great lengths and depths in exploring WHY it is. That is, to the best of his ability. Fortunately for us, he has decided to share his discoveries, and lift whomever will listen and pay attention out of the horde, personally. I will be eternally grateful for this.

He's hilarious at times, mockingly patronizing in others. His style is occasionally Machiavellian (as in literal writing style.. his way of giving you the clues to your own epiphany later), and at other times he overflows with legitimate emotion. Anybody with an ounce of empathy feels their heart break simultaneously at the sound of his very real, emotionally impacted voice. His truth is inspiring, and his enlightened self awareness has made this masterpiece in the realm of "self-help" a reality, although I feel that labeling this work in that narrow of a single category is tragic.

I stumbled upon this book as a "recommended for you" suggestion, and knew nothing about it, the author, or any of the concepts going in. I trusted the author when my instinct told me not to, and got on the ride anyway. What I returned with... is a better person, honestly. I don't know how deep this will resonate with anybody else, but it fit perfectly into a missing piece of my personal, self-awareness puzzle, and I feel... different. He would say, "not good, not evil, just am"... but I'm still going with better. I can't thank Audible and Jordan Peterson enough for the opportunity to experience this book. Unlike the Seneca's, Nietzsche's, and Descartes' of the world (when you read it, you might catch what I did there ;) ), I may one day be able to shake this man's hand. Until then, I'll be living my much less chaotic life. Speaking of which, stop reading this and go live yours.

"Self-help for Cucks" was my initial impression of this title early on, and in a way, it is. The first half basically introduces the beta personalities that will be used as references and examples later on. The author is obviously a talented psychologist, and his motivations for writing this book admittedly stem from helping himself, and eventually groups of others deal with loveless, sexless, toxic relationships and personalities. Personally, I was having a difficult time and a little bit of buyer's remorse when trying to relate to the cases featured, as many others may experience. His insights and way of dissecting human behavior resonated with me just enough though, so I kept going.

The second half was where I found gold. I would like to point out that although the title and narrative is aimed at men, the insights into subconscious human "hangups" and motivations scattered throughout the book transcend gender, class, race, and any other "ism" that you may come into this pre-loaded with. Personal growth as a human being requires understanding the side of yourself that you probably aren't aware of, and he does an excelent job of pointing you in the right direction. Do not let your ego distract you from really listening, I promise that it's worth it.

Many of the psychological tactics employed here are lost on myself, and probably a lot of other people that are familiar with them... letting go of mental baggage, affirmations, etc. However, there is merit to these exercises, and they will do a world of good for the core audience that the book is aimed at. For others that are further along on your path, there are more than enough gems here to justify the digging. All in all, a very valuable book in terms of personal growth and understanding, and I highly recommend it.

I like Gary, and this isnt personal. Just being honest.

As a business owner, I purchased this due to it's alleged focus on "branding". Specifically on the internet, which is the only place that a successful business should be focusing on in 2018. This book's focus is actually on "personal branding", which while I agree is a worthwhile endeavor, is jumping the shark if a solid foundation isn't supporting it. On the surface, his heart is in the right place. "Work hard", "be motivated", blah blah blah... "The Emyth" not only does a better job in this regard, Gerber actually gives you real world steps to take.
I also get the impression that Gary has realized his previous, and success-launching title "Crush It" is now obsolete, and this is simply an attempt to validate it's credibility. He literally "goes off script" and admits this several times. It's loaded with "testimonials" of it's significance by "successful people" that have read it, which just left me wondering why I was listening to this title instead.
Moreover, I feel like this was written for my 12 year old daughter, and everybody else with dreams of making a fortune by posting vines, vlogs, and other mind numbing internet content, rather than mastering a craft that may actually pay a mortgage, let alone contribute to society in a solvent way. Not to say that the internet entertainment industry isn't significant, because it is. This just comes across as feeding the fantasies of those who say things like "I'm either going to be a rapper, or go into the NFL", and make no preparations for when the real world slaps the sh^t out of them. In my opinion, this book exists to exploit those with weak ethics, and even weaker minds.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Perhaps not reading most of the source material that this author plagiarized.

Would you ever listen to anything by Alex Lickerman again?

Never is a long time. Maybe one day I'll get a free copy of something Alex actually wrote himself, and will forget about this nonsense.

What didn’t you like about Phil Holland’s performance?

He was a bit dry and robotic. Not terrible by any means, but not very interesting either.

What character would you cut from The Undefeated Mind?

The Buddhist monk that happens to also be a medical professional and psychologist.

Any additional comments?

I just... I can't. I made it several chapters in, but the bullsh^t stacked so high that I could feel my brain shutting down. He regurgitates the work of other authors, and tries to sell it as his own. Claims to be a cancer doctor that assaults people with terminal illnesses hour long psychological diatribes about happiness and zen. The key to happiness is studying Buddhism, and having a positive outlook. There it is, save your credit and buy some Seneca the Younger.. the uncredited creator of most of the ideas shared here.
