Historia
The gutsy, wild, tortured free spirit, forged in pain yet unafraid of life or death, Red Sonja, the famous, fiery She-Devil and barbarian of Hyrkania has never concerned herself with the consequences of her actions. She’s taken what she wanted, from treasure to drink to the companionship of bedfellows. She’s fought who deserved it (and sometimes those who didn’t). And she’s never looked back.

A confession
Revisado: 12-07-24
I greatly enjoy Gail Simone's superhero comics work. I always drop her name when someone asks me "who are your favorite writers?" But I have never read any of her Red Sonja comics, and that is clearly a failing on my part. This novel is incredible, showing a depth of love for a character that has been largely maligned or reduced to sexy lamp status. Mix Simone's stellar storytelling with Felicia Day's brilliant narration, and you have a combination that is not to be missed. You owe it to yourself to listen to this tale. You will not be sorry you did.

Historia
Born into the Scarlet Rabbit's mercenary company, Sakura Ike learned the art of combat before she learned how to serve tea as a Geisha. For her, fighting in a CASPer mech suit is as natural as breathing. The job was simple: get down to the planet Wh'ton, retrieve the box, come home, and get paid. Easy. But then tragedy struck, and the only family she had left was her aunt Katsume and a mother that never loved her.

A quick, fun cyberpunk read
Revisado: 09-07-24
This book reminded me in a good way of the 80s anime series Bubblegum Crisis. It's a taut, entertaining tale that is an excellent example of its type of tale. A mercenary team, in hardsuit powered armor, proceeds to become an effective force through their training and tech. Great narration too!

Historia
Edward Splettstoesser and Liliana Contreras have been on the trail together for the better part of a decade, searching for their long-lost friend Boon. After so many dusty miles and bitter disappointments, they finally track her down to a Wyoming prison and begin hatching plans to break her out. But all hell breaks loose, and in the middle of the pandemonium is “the Frenchman,” one Emile Champlain, who may very well hold the long-sought secret of what truly happened to Boon’s mother, Pimchan.

A fitting end to the saga of Boon
Revisado: 07-26-24
Author Ed Kurtz brings us one final ride with Boon and her companions Edward and Liliana. The mission is one of great importance to Boon, but the real story is in the journey and the relationships between the characters. In the end, I'm a little sad it's over, but I'm glad I got to experience the saga of Boon.
The narrators were both excellent, but I found the production quality lacking a bit in this one. There are some duplicated sentences that didn't get edited out. Some of the sound quality fluctuates, especially in the latter half. Regardless, the narrators made the story enjoyable even more than if I'd read it, and I appreciate the work they both put in.

Historia
Newly widowed and trying to cope with her grief, Winnie Mae Chisholm moves from Tennessee with her teenage son, Pax, to Oregon, hoping the change will let them both heal and move on. She’s warned when buying their new home that the next door neighbor, Mr. Fisher, is a famous recluse and no one has seen him in years, but that’s fine with her—she’s looking for quiet. She’s not going to get it, however, because when Pax meets the neighbor, he discovers that the reason Mr. Fisher hides from the world is that he isn’t actually from this world.

This tale is beautifully written and narrated. I found it to be charming, with an underlying message of hope. In times like these, we need stories like this, and Kevin Hearne and Annalee Scott have delivered.

The big twist
Revisado: 06-01-24
A slow-burn plot with a twist in the final act that is surprising and welcome. The mystery of the big hole that starts the book leads in an unexpected direction by the end. The narration is engaging and fun as well. Worth a listen.

Revisado: 05-25-24
This was an amazing story, beautifully written, and excellently narrated. For everyone who has hope for the future of humanity and its ability to rise above petty hatred and selfishness, this story feeds it. This has been the best story I have heard this year.

Fast paced and full of firefights
Revisado: 05-09-24
Hostile Contact is a blisteringly quick, intense tale of a hostile first contact scenario. The broad range of narrative POV characters put me in mind of The Expanse, and the story pacing is relentless as much of the story is told in real time, sometimes in a minute by minute breakdown. It feels ready for translation into a summer blockbuster film. The narration is spot on and clearly identifies whose POV we are in at any given moment.

Everyone wants the Star of Erebus. Space-pirate Nyx Marcus is no exception. With it, she can prove to her father that she is worthy of his legacy. But she’s come up empty-handed aboard the space-ship Thanatos and now Malcam, her father’s first officer, is mutinying. As Nyx flees with a loyal skeleton crew, she discovers that the planet-killing weapon, named after one of the seven gods, is more than what it seems. Erebus isn’t a simple weapon. It’s an ancient AI and a technological god.

Fun space opera
Revisado: 04-29-24
AJ Super has delivered a romp of a space opera, chock full of classic SF themes, good vs evil, and a fun, snarky protagonist in Nyx. And you can't go wrong with space pirates! The action moves at a brisk pace, narrated well, and adds interesting layers of mythology and AI to the storyline. All in all, a tale worth your time.

Another excellent Boon tale
Revisado: 03-25-24
I loved this book every bit as much as the first Boon. The new narrator is excellent, but may be harder for listeners not used to Hispanic accents. I didn't have any problems with it and thought she was exceptional throughout. The story is top-notch and worth every minute of time you spend with it.

Revisado: 02-09-24
Former special agent and current Marshall Flint growls and snarls his way across the galaxy as he hunts down kidnappers and slavers. If you read classic science fiction from the 40s and 50s, you'll recognize him because his DNA is in those classic stories.
