I wanted to write a review of this story because I think this author has a bright career in front of him.
Yes, this story is a little short, but I think it would have felt short with an eight hour run time. Moreover, the storytelling feels so comfortable and confident that the story just flows like a fun afternoon with friends.
This King guy has a bright future in fiction.

I am writing this review to praise Mister Nelson’s sophomore effort in this series. And, of course, the narration of Mister Hastings.
While I respect the most recent review writers and their opinions, I strongly disagree with them.
While this book is futuristic science fiction, it is written by an adult for adults. The characters have strong conflicting motivations at times, but they are realistic motives. And even people in the story the reader may like are, at times, flawed.
If you read Mister Nelson’s first book in this series, I suspect you will enjoy this one as well.

This was the first story I've heard from Les Bohem, but his talent for storytelling was obvious right away.
His characters, dialogue, and world building were all spectacular. And while I cannot think of pretty words to sell this story right now - in times like these I think of the book title 'Me talk Pretty Someday' - just give it a try. As my basic training company commander said many decades ago used to say, "It's Huah, you'll like it." Okay, it's nothing like Army training, but still, listen.

I have enjoyed Peter Hamilton's previous work, and John Lee's narration. However, I just quit this book fourteen hours into it. Gun to my head, I don't think I could tell you what it was about, or the name of a character who was even interesting.

Rico has been one of my favorite characters in the many hundreds of audiobooks I’ve purchased. I just finished the second story with him, and I am pleased. Although fiction, I feel like there is at least one man in the universe who would get me.
But seriously, wonderful character development and a fun plot without ever getting bogged down in the minutiae some SciFi writers find themselves. Also, Joel Richards does another spectacular job with this Fleming novel.

This book was important for me to hear. For my wife as well. And, if Ambassador Bolton was more like President Trump, I imagine he might have title his book, 'The Grown Up In The Room Where It Happened.'

Look, when it comes to my world view and where the United States fit into my view, I differ with Ambassador Bolton in some very minor and some very significant ways. However, he is a true American patriot and long-time public servant who has put in his time and deserves respect. I for one, believe this is his honest attempt to recount his time serving as President Trump's National Security Advisor. Though I sometimes found myself shaking my head, I do understand the principled positions that form Ambassador Bolton's opinions. So, bravo.

I have some very real disappointments with Ambassador Bolton. However, I will not share them here as they would be both spoilers for the book, and probably show my fanciful ignorance of protocol.

I yearn for steady U.S. leadership, and if not an end, then a cold war of political partisan bickering between the parties. If you are similarly situated, this is a book for you.

Another Great Series

There's a 500 pound gorilla in the room if you are a frequent listener to audiobooks, and especially Marko Kloos' previous series 'Frontlines' - one of my favorites, I've gone through the series four times - and the first book in this series. And the proverbial gorilla is that Luke Daniels was the narrator on all of those books.
Here's the thing, I'm a trial attorney. You know why I am a moderately decent trial attorney? (No, I am not a narcissist.) It's because I tell stories. I tell good stories in openings and closings, and I know how to present my case as if I am not there, and the jury is hearing a story from the witness on the stand. Okay, that was a long setup for this,,, I had a professor in law school, Milt, who also practices in the courtroom, and he is so smooth, so charismatic, so charming, funny, insightful, you'd think the Neil Gaiman of attorneys was in the courtroom. I admire, and am totally jealous, of this man's skills with my mother tongue.
Now, is this narrator, Angelo Di Loreto, a good narrator? Yep, you bet. Can the man spin a good yarn. Uh-huh. Anything you hate about him? Nope. Is he Milt... I mean Luke? No, he's just not.
Mister Di Loreto, I am fifteen years into my career, knowing that I strive to be better, but I know I will never be Milt. The man is just better at me. Can I be second best behind him? Eh, I've got the darn Mark Boyetts and Wil Wheatons too. But, seventh, ninth, eleventh? Yeah, man. Mister Di Loreto, there's still work for us too!
Whew! Gorilla dealt with.
Now, for the story; Marko Kloos is just a good writer. The man knows how to develop a character and how to create a person - A PERSON - who reacts organically to the circumstances under which he or she finds him or herself.
The stories are science fiction, of course. So, we're talking about tidal drift amongst human populations between planets, rather than mountain chains, in The Palladium Wars. And in the Frontlines series, there's a problem with overpopulation, and humans have to deal with what happens when there's competition for resources outside of our solar system.
However, all the while, the reader (listener) understands the big picture only because they see and experience all of it through seemingly real people. Most of whom you like.
Stories are always about the people. At least that's where I believe every good narrative begins and ends. Mister Kloos is a master of characters, and that is why I seek out his work.

I liked Craig Falconer's first book in this series, a lot. I felt the same with the second book. There were great twists and turns, good character development, and the plot moved along at a great pace.

The plot moved along...

I'll say that again, THE PLOT MOVED ALONG.

Now, there is so much filler, and this is not a joke, that at one point in the book there is three minutes of conversation about where everyone is going - with every person confirming where he or she is headed, and where the others are going and with whom.

It seems likely that Mr. Falconer has done two things. First, completely given up on writing something interesting. And second, knowing where his own story is going.

I won't return this book because I finished it. But I am very disappointed with myself for convincing myself that book 4 wasn't "that bad". It was. This book was. I hope I remember that in the future.

When I read some of the reviews for Worldship Humility I became a little cautious about buying this book. Some of the reviewers wrote about sex and language as if this was a purient novel. Nope, it's not. In fact, the characters are thoughtful, complicated, sweet, introspective, confused, and layered. You know, like us regular people.
The best sci-fi is about people in amazing big situations. Other words, space, ships, planets, and hostile environments that test the limits of us. But, what R.R. Haywood never forgets is that the story is still about us, people.
I am keeping this review short, because I just finished the audible book, and I do not want to write about the story - even though I really do! But the last thing I want to say is that narrator Colin Morgan is nothing short of amazing. Again, I want to talk about why, but you'll just have to trust me here. The man is an amazing voice actor.
Thanks, and be well.

What made the experience of listening to Lock In (Narrated by Wil Wheaton) the most enjoyable?

Wil Wheaton has a great sincere delivery. You want to like his protagonist.

What did you like best about this story?

I wanted a good John Scalzi story, but I'e been avoiding this one book for a long time. Mr. Scalzi is one of my favorite authors, but I couldn't imagine how this story about people "locked in" to their bodies would be compelling to me. That's okay, I should have realized I didn't need to imagine why the story would be great. That's why I read/listen to John Scalzi. He brings the rich characters, backstory, intrigue, and science fiction, that makes the story worth buying.
So what did I really like about this story? That it was about a new FBI agent and a huge criminal conspiracy. My professional life is about criminality, and I just had no idea that this book was about such interesting characters.

What does Wil Wheaton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If I just read this book, it would be in my voice. My voice is boring. I know my voice. My voice points out that I've gotten more hair on my ears since I turned 40. Will Wheaton's voice is the voice of a talented actor.
I pick Will Wheaton's voice for a fun book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Like I've mentioned, I'm just kicking myself in the behind for avoiding this book for so long!

Any additional comments?

I'm getting the sequel now.
