I really enjoyed the subtle and not so subtle nods to other books in this genre. The pacing is a bit weird, with a sense of urgency that seems contradictory to the exposition required to adequately explain the why of the story, so I'm left feeling as if there should be more book here or less progress. however, it's still a good representation of what litrpg is supposed to look like.

Empty of substance

I enjoy a good OP MC novel usually, but this was not a usual or good novel. It's written like a ridiculous parody of an OP LITRPG MC novel without much of the humor that one would expect from such a perspective. So let's break it down a bit.
- the MC complains. A lot. I would overlook this if the MC did not have the power to do whatever they wanted. Instead the MC has a self-created struggle.
- The dialogue. Simple and at times redundant. The MC doesn't have much to say and the other characters have cheesy lines. This would also get a pass, except many times the author drives the narrative into a corner, creating unsightly plot holes, and ruining the immersion by asking questions through dialogue that are then ignored or deflected for weakly supported reasons that have less to do with the story and more to do with the author.
- The world building. Arguably the best part of this book, its gives depth to the plot and allows the story to have more than 2 dimensions.
- The villian overshadows the MC. As do several other characters. It really seems like the book could have been better titled, The Noble Spellsword: Limit Break or System Manipulation: The trapped Hero King. Instead There's hours of internal monologue that doesn't forward the plot from an MC who has way too much anti-MC energy and yet still serves as the hero foil.


If you're looking to buy this book, I would suggest waiting for a sale down to $3 or less, the quality is about on par with that of a teen romance novel.
